Ground moving in Japan after earthquake.
03/14/11, 21:04 Yeah its not the WHOLE EARTH moving, just the part you can stand on, that your brain mentally relies on being fixed and unmoving, heaving back and forth and sending ever increasing fountains of water into the air. Yawnarama. |

WTC Attack September 11, 2001 from New York Police Helicopter
03/07/11, 21:38 Maybe you don't remember but decent digital cameras in 2001 had like 2 megapixels and hoovered through AA batteries in 15 minutes, and the first iPod, which had a 5 GB hard drive, an actual spinning scroll wheel, and a 160 x 128 monochrome screen wasn't even out yet. Best Buy didn't stop selling movies in VHS format until 2003, which was the first year people rented more DVDs than tapes. Its been a long fucking decade. |

10 Abandoned Places
02/19/11, 21:38 Just a few years ago there was a lot more there, I think the increased interest after Silent Hill drove all but the last few residents out. The government took down all their monitoring stuff, the mine fire sign, etc. and when the last guy on Locust street finally left last year, the bench and veterans memorial got torn out too, he was the only one maintaining them. Route 61 is COVERED in graffiti now. To really appreciate it now you have to read some of the books about the history of the fire, or if you drove through Ashland picture those dense row house streets on the empty land of Centralia, cause those towns were identical before.
Anyway if anyone is interested here's what it looked like in 2006

One less house left in 2008

Last time before the Locust street house was demolished in 2009, and one of the mine portals

I need to put up some more recent pics, hm. Anyway, I'd also add Coalwood, WV to that list:

Exit Through The Gift Shop
02/02/11, 14:46 I just assumed as much, mostly because I don't see anyone who has theoretically held a camera for years manage to do so without developing any basic competency along the way, the bumbling mannerisms feel quite deliberate.
Works for me though, I see what they are getting at |
