Youth Pastors are, in my experience, the most loathsome kind of human. It is amazing that they simultaneously convey sanctimonious self righteousness, self loathing, and constant anxiety all in one incredibly superficial, desperate to seem cool package. Add to that they twist themselves into this inhuman shape for the purposes of deluding children into being just as miserable and deluded as they are, and you have the shit icing on the shit cake. How depressing. |

The fact that he sounds constantly like he is on the verge of tears tells you everything you need to know about this guy and his mission in life. Being treated like something approximately like a human being by people to whom he is indirectly paying money is the locus of his last shred of perceived dignity.
It is telling that for Jeff, this isn't about some larger critique of capitalism, some David Foster Wallace-esque commentary on the ugliness of "service culture." It seems to be literally about telling a high schooler or some other desperate worker to do something, and then seeing them do it, all while pretending to care what he thinks.
If he had any respect for human dignity, he would tolerate the disaffected blasé of these Starbucks employees out of the natural camaraderie engendered by the horribleness of their stilted, modern lives. Instead, he harasses them and then records lengthy videos which no human could stand to watch. Ahh, modernity! |

Friends, this lady is schizophrenic. It is neither interesting or difficult to get her to do or say crazy things. It is also highly morally suspect, and a violation of the "prime directive" of POE. I think that, given that this video was produced against the basic tenants of the site (even if no POEers broke the rule), I wonder if it shouldn't be removed. |
