That sounds about right. The Massa/Slave team was what eventually became Harlem Heat, right? Going from "Actual slaves managed by Simon Legree" to "Scary urban blacks managed by a succession of white people" was really only a slight positive shift. |

Oh holy hell. I've seen bits and pieces of Nash's Oz gimmick, but this is incredible.
I believe this was all Bill Herd's doing - he was a guy who came to WCW from Pizza Hut or somewhere really weird, and wanted to have insane corporate synergy. Turner owns the rights to Treasure Island? Fuck it, let's have a Long John Silver rassler! I think one of the other ideas was a pair of hunchbacked wrestlers - that way you could never cleanly pin them. |
