09/17/07, 16:26 perhaps we talk like this about everything, hmmm? perhaps we simply have differing personalities and tastes due to different combinations of upbringing, genetics and personal experience. perhaps we are simply different people than you are, and guess what, that's ok, even if you don't think it is.
only point i was ever trying to drive home was a personal opinion on my own taste, not what i think the whole world should think. read my entire post instead of just the first three words and perhaps you'll not be so knee jerk reaction offended.
i repeat, if you like this, that is fine by me. i myself said that i would have to see more to make a proper judgment (see above). perhaps i would like it. perhaps i would hate it. i don't know yet. i was explaining my general position on anime. hell, i took an asain studies class that focused quite a bit on anime. i've seen plenty before i formed my opinion.
incidentally, i'll mention that grave of the fireflies is one of my favorite movies of all time. so yeah, i'm SOOOOO biased.
UCF: i used paragraphs!!!! did i do good!?!?! i love you!!
Cube: i always heard that was a rumor. i pray to jesus and his 12 holy reindeer that it is true. | | Angel's Egg
09/17/07, 07:44 Ok, maybe i didn't state it properly. i hate most anime that i come across. i site things like ghost in the shell because i can still watch it and be entertained. it's certainly not comparable to great movies or anything, but it's basically like watching lost or 24, it's not super, but it'll kill an hour and you won't feel dumber for it. metropolis is a better example, along with a few others such as some (not all) miizaki movies and surprise productions like voices from a distant star. i didn't mean to suggest that i don't think it's a legitimate form of cinema, it's just saturated in mediocrity. so is western tv and movies, and all other countries cinema for that matter. that's what makes the few gems in any of it sparkle that much more. so yeah, when i say i hate anime, it's mainly because i've seen plenty, and i can usually predict it pretty well as a write off. i also don't bother watching tv save for a few shows i download, and i don't watch many hollywood productions (unless famously bad, because i like to mock them with my friends), preferring to stay in the foreign and cult film sections of the video store. but i'm not a hater, meaning, if you like it, then god bless you. i'm not here to tell you you're wrong, because your not. it's a matter of taste.
you bring up a good point about the age demographic, however.
uggg. shit, did i just get into a long comment debate on the internet about anime? damn, i lose. goddamn self awareness! | | Thai Black Herbal Toothpaste Commercial

09/17/07, 04:17 i'll damit, i did kinda like the "good" bioshock ending, but it still was a bit weak. to get by, i remind myself that the ending to that game didn't really matter, it was the journey to the ending that made it great. i have nary a bad thing to say abut that game, and perhaps it'll spawn a good trend in development towards "smart" games. as good as some games withing the setting are, i'm geting a little tired of crime simulations like san andreas and stock fantasy like WOW. it's time to break out some deeper reference material. make games rooted in camus, kafka and clark. start adding a little Scorsese or kubrick in there. i'm still waiting for Zardoz: the game and hyperion: a john keats game. | | Zoo - trailer
09/17/07, 01:53 wow, the enumclaw horse fucker legend will never die. i hope to god this is a parody. | | Angel's Egg
09/17/07, 01:38 i hate anime, yet i'm not an anime "hater". there are good examples of anime, such as metropolis and ghost in the shell, but those are oasis' in the desert of big titted, robot fighting, treasure hunting, status quo rangers with the power of mecha-shiva. i'll admit this had some pretty pictures, but whenever i see japan attempt to incorporate western religious symbolism, it always seems heavy handed, overkilled, and eventually monotonous. they do better with their own religions of Shinto and Buddhism, but even those are bastardized for the most part. there are exceptions, of course, but they are few and far between. they simply seem confused by our mythologies, and honestly, you can't blame them too much, as plenty of westerners are confused by their religions.
whew. oh, and i'm voting half because i liked the style, but would need to see more before i could make a proper judgment. | | Katie Couric Reporting From Iraq

09/16/07, 02:32 i remember liking this quite a bit way back when. i don't think i'll watch it again, because i prefer to leave some things as fond memories. | | System Shock 2 End Game Video
09/15/07, 06:06 actually, i think these guys just ain't that great at endings. i gotta agree, both bioshock endings were pretty weak, and so was this, which was weird considering the mega-lithic-awesome-tastic nature of the rest of the story and gameplay in bioshock and the sense of fear in system shock.
but, then again, what game ending wasn't weak? to only one i can say i felt satisfied with was silent hill 2, and that (don't get me wrong) had horrid gameplay . maybe that's the trick, shitty gameplay = great ending. you can't break the formula with our current technology! | | The Eyes of Nye - 109 - Antibotics
