Police Women of Cincinnati - Partiers Won't Open Door
03/19/13, 18:15 wonder? They absolutely do get trained to use language like that. I dare say it's not even unofficial, rather it's taught at the academy. Legal finagling and manipulation are part of a cops MO. Even if it's not officially taught, it's at least pervasive in the cop sub-culture and likely a tip the old cops tell the young ones. |

Andrei Tarkovskys' Stalker
03/11/13, 10:44 I agree. I just know that Tarkovsky also puts 9 out of 10 people to sleep. 9 out of 10 people are philistines anyways. |

Andrei Tarkovskys' Stalker
03/11/13, 04:40 A visual feast but probably lost by most due to it's absolutely crawling pace.
It's the kind of movie that makes most people hate the arthouse genre, but if you have the patience you might wind up loving it like I do. But I don't blame anyone who doesn't. It's a hard movie to sit through.
Also, you you are going to have Tarkovsky linked, you should add a "water fetish' tag as well. Watch two or more of his movies and you'll see what I mean. |

The Sega Genesis Aisle at Toys R Us, Circa 1990
03/07/13, 02:32 While the total production including marketing was much lower then, the actual cartridges cost more, because every game was a specialized chip that required multiple components. From what I understand, they took a 15% hit on the material cost alone.
When CD's came about, Sony jumped on with the PlayStation because suddenly the profit margin per unit rose to acceptable levels and they already had CD manufacturing plants. Really the primary reason they got into games at all.
Fabio: Mario 3 sold 18 million worldwide over the course of 20 years. The wiki cites 2008 as the year that tally was made. It wasn't all in a blitz on the market in '88. |

Pat Robertson Makes You A Millionaire
03/06/13, 18:59 It's really been a part of of American Protestantism since the beginning, it's just that back then it resulted in things like a slightly larger farm to work harder on instead of simple high scores in your bank account. |

A demo of black isle's failed fallout 3 game
03/03/13, 01:31 It was pretty far removed from a western, other than the state it's set in and some people have cowboy hats.
I preferred New Vegas because it felt like closure. I watched Van Buren develop for two years just to be shot down in the 11th hour by Herve Caens stupidity. So the fact that it used much of the same intended script and setting was great. I thought the weirdo courier/prophet/nemesis plot device explained in the last DLC was awful (actually, most the DLC wasn't great) but all in all, NV won the fight between the two.
HOWEVER!!!!!!!
F3 brought the series back. It modernized it in a way that Van Buren wasn't going to (though VB was 6 years before) and for better or worse, it was at least trying to be reverential to the originals instead of just a cash grab like everyone worried about.
One of my favorite things about Skyrim was my speculation on the next Fallout. With Bethesda creating a better crafted world than both oblivion and F3, I'm hoping that skill translates to F4 and by proxy any future obsidian fallout, if they get another crack at it. |

Japanese 'Egg Ice Cream'
02/24/13, 14:06 Those flat bags with the nozzle on them that they passed over early in the video are ice cream as well, pretty common in Korea and I had myself a sweet tooth so I got them often enough. They would squirt just the same as this if they hadn't been kept cold enough, which I imagine is the problem here. |

L. A. Noire Gag Reel
02/19/13, 18:46 I dunno. I got every case right, though I didn't care if I aced them or not. I really liked the game, but a lot of that is due to feel.
The homicide desk was rough, particularly the last case, which has you running around town like an asshole when you know exactly where to go and who the killer is from the beginning.
Vice got interesting, though, and they do FINALLY get to adding depth to Cole's character from that time on, but it's far too late in the story to finally make your protagonist interesting and so I don't blame people for falling off.
The plot changes nicely in the final act, during the arson desk cases but all swirls down to finding what is basically a signed confession tying up every case you've had so far (except, oddly, the homicide desk cases, which are like this side story).
And yes, the story is too linear. The whole thing was a step in the right direction, proper police procedural show format instead of slider puzzles and inventory combinations, but with that should come dynamism and freedom, not slavishly following a set plot line, or even if you want to have that overarching character plot, make the cases disconnected enough that your choices actually matter. In a few cases, you have the choice to lock up on guy or the other, but in the end, it turns out neither of them did it because mystery man and it doesn't quite work. |

Louie CK goes on Jay Leno, brings up white privilege
02/19/13, 09:31 To be fair, his new material wouldn't be allowed on Leno at all. BUT! I agree with you in general. Third season of Louie was pretty ho hum (not awful, just not nearly as good as the first two) and his most recent standup has been a little underwhelming.
I still love Louis too, MacGuyver |

Super zeppelin Revolutionary airship
02/17/13, 23:57 Egg-zactly. I know these things are filled with non-combustables and can work alright with a few holes, but a giant gaping RPG crater on the side is gonna take this slow moving air whale right down.
It'll still get used. It's cheaper logistics in the rear with the gear. It's just not a troop transport. |
