Teacher/Bully: How My Son Was Humiliated and Tormented by his Teacher and Aide
04/25/12, 08:38

This guy may have been a bit overly poetic in his anger, but he really is being a class act here. Didn't even reveal the last names, not filing a suit. All things considered, I don't find any fault in this guy and as a teacher it makes me sad that those among us that need to be the most patient and understanding are sometimes the least.

This discussion was a nice pallet cleanser after my lament on gamers in that Bioware Panel video. Thanks, I feel better about my favorite medium again.

I was a double CD game that had a bunch of bonus stuff on it, plus a cloth map or something. I remember full page ads in game magazines with a huge laundry list of bonus shwag. I also remember I higher price on it. I think around $120.

P.S. I really don't know why I give the Persona series, the embodiment of my problems, a pass. I just do, I still like them alot.

Fabio: That is a point, but I still play a ton of games to utter completion. The 100+ hours spent in Skyrim is proof of this. When you are a kid, you have a lot more patience for this sort of stuff and while I'll still throw 40 hours of my life away on a game, I need it to feel more snappy than the JRPG slog.

RocketBlender: Almost everything you are saying about Trails I've heard about Xenoblade Chronicles which recently hit the Wii (it does not entail arm waving). Now, I'm not putting a personal rec on that, as I don't even have a Wii, but you might want to check it out.

Myself: How could I have just called turn based 'poison'? I just got done spending 20 hours of fantastic turn-based combat in Jagged Alliance 2's remake (I never played the original, though I hear it was better). Turn based is fine if done in the right setting. What isn't right is menu based combat and screaming your power move before doing it and being a sexualized child, mystical high schooler (well, actually, Persona is still alright somehow) or a amnesiac subject of prophesy (western games are also guilty).

It totally is. I've slogged through JRPGs much more recent such as The Last Remnant and they are, technically, totally fine games that simply get bogged down in this archaic gamely style and slavish devotion to anime aesthetic. It's really unfortunate, because there really is still good stuff out there, they just keep putting that turn based poison in it.
Baleen vs. The IRS

You were the Norm of the site, Baleen. Here since forever, and we thought you'd never go until the bar shut down. Plus, you are among only I think three of us to show your face. The others being Cena and NoCode (What ever happened to her?)

Cena, you forget you live in a tiny little bubble in Alaska. I know a bit of Japanese from Samurai movies, history lessons and from some of the Japanese transfer students I met in College and others I taught in Korea. You'd be surprised, it's a whole big culture, just like ours, not totally centered on animation and plenty of interesting things about it worth learning the language for.

They are wearing papercraft armor. You know the answer to your question.

I adore games. Perhaps more than is healthy. It's the greatest current medium and has potential to be far better than it is now. And no, it's not new to have fanatics and crybabies and with the net they are loud enough to ruin the party for the rest of us. I've complained about movies, music and books before, though usually I say something to the effect of "I didn't care for that" and then not think much of it anymore.

I'm not even defending Bioware, DA2 sucked for the most part and ME3 had a shit ending. I'm just sick of hearing it every five fucking seconds. It's no different than the 'Arrow to the knee' thing getting old or...or....oh fuck

I engaged again. That means I lost twice. Fucking video games. I'm gonna go join the peace corp.

I imported the dvd AND got a region free dvd player to play it on. It was worth it.

I love videos games, but goddamn are they a first world problem. The reactions of the internet and even my real world friends about Bioware the past year (since DA2 and loudest now due to ME3) have made me simply repulsed be my own favorite hobby. You know, if you are unhappy with a product, fine but Jesus Christ temper the reaction. The same for the reactionary love.

Man, fucking video games. Even telling people to cool it is getting involved. I lose too.

MST3K Does 'Hamlet'
04/14/12, 02:50

This and The Starfighters. I used to have a competition with my roommate to see if we could find a movie to show the other that would make each others head explode. While researching movies, I saw The Starfighters in MST3K form and could barely make it through with Mike and the bots supporting me. So of course I tracked down the UNEDITED cut of it to actually show him.

It took days picking brains out of the carpet.

Actually, I'd say that the extendo arm looked like a floodlight for whatever that dude needed to do, and then he just drove off. The 'twin lifhts' are easily lens flares and also, what is taking those pictures? Likely, it's a camera on the wall of HQ. This had to happen just a few feet away from whatever installation they were at. Nothing is mysterious, everything is mundane.
