I'd rather have a keyboard you don't have to throw away, but could keep, and would work fine for years and years without needing to be scraped and replaced (presumably with a brand new one you had to buy at full price).

Computer hardware should be like a straight razor, not a package of disposables!

Yeah, I was ten years old and I loved to pretend like I was killing everyone in the room (my favorite weapon was an atomic bomb that I'd stick up people's butts). Sometimes I'd go find random private rooms, and harass the people trying to have cyber-sex in them. There were a lot of vampire cyber-sex RPs for some reason.

RDI and ParaScope were my two favorite hangout spots, until I got a bit older, and realized that the real fun wasn't talking in chatrooms, it was using the AOHell punter to force random people to log-off and lose their accounts.

Yeah, I hate to say it, but I'm with you on this one John. It's neither tragic nor "tragic"; dude died doing what he loved. Nothing wrong with that.

No she wouldn't. We've already seen how Dashie and Fluttershy get along. They bring out the best in each other, and while Rainbow is totally the top in the relationship, it's hardly abusive. In fact, I'd even go so far as to say that Rainbow could stand to be a little MORE abusive, simply for the fact that Fluttershy is clearly damaged goods, and is into assholes who treat her like shit. You've seen the way she pines for Angel Bunny.

Now obviously, I'm not saying Rainbow should be as bad as Angel Bunny, no, of course not. But Fluttershy likes strong, confident partners, "bad mares", as the case may be. She wants a pony who can get her up in the morning to do PT. She wants a pony who'll kick a dragon in the face for her.

And of course Tree Hugger is relaxed. She's relaxed because she's stoned! (do you think this means Hasbro will finally accept my fan scripts for the weed-growing Juggalo Ponies, Ganja Twerk and Faygo Dream?)

It's not AIM. Or rather, it is, but it's an early version of AIM, a sort of "pre-AIM" that was built-in to AOL 4.0 and allowed users to IM each other. The chick sending him the message was presumably one of the people hanging out in chatroom he visited briefly; I haven't been on AOL since the late 90s, but that sort of behavior (show up in a chatroom, immediately get deluged with A/S/L and various sexual requests) was pretty common in those days.

What needs to be done, if anything, is not to simply abolish the death penalty, but to place a cap on the maximum penalty that the state is allowed to give. Life sentences are, functionally speaking, death sentences - if you are serving a life sentence, you WILL die in prison, just very slowly. Life sentences are also far less likely to get you exonerated, and much harder to spin into an emotional story for the purposes of garnering outside support. Basically, if we were to simply abolish all death penalties tomorrow, it might make us all feel good, but what would really happen is that all current death penalty convictions, would become... death penalty convictions. Death penalty convictions WITHOUT the possibility of reprieve. Death penalty convictions, which sound nicer on paper, and therefore hardly anyone would lift a finger to stop them. It's damn near impossible to get regular people to care about abolishing a DEATH penalty, so what are the odds that regular people would ever give two shits about abolishing a more "humane" LIFE penalty?

So, again, we'd need some sort of punishment cap in place. Life sentences would have to be abolished right alongside death sentences, or else there's no net gain for social justice, only a net loss. Abolish the death penalty, and you'll still have death penalties, only now there will be more of them, and the innocent will be even less likely to get released.

I hate to say it, but likely the only reason we're even hearing about this man's story was *because* it was a death penalty case. Death penalty convictions have the highest per capita rate of exoneration (almost 10%), far higher than those involving life sentences; the reason for this being that death penalty cases enjoy both a far deeper level of scrutiny, and a much longer process of appeals, than any other type of case.

If Mr Graves had been wrongfully convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, he would still be behind bars, and none of us would have ever known his name.

Mine broke a couple weeks ago, and it's quite liberating not being able to check Wikipedia, browse Youtube, look at the time, or make 911 calls whenever I want to.

I'm thinking of replacing it with a moderately-sized tablet/laptop, between 10 and 14 inches, dual OS Windows 8/ Android, and enough specs to run Photoshop CS5. Resistive touchscreen, NOT capacitive, would be a plus. Any ideas, poeTV?

Well, of course she's an Earth pony *at heart*. That's why she needs Rainbow Dash by her side, to keep her eyes on the skies.

I do like that they used a heavily-lidded eye model similar to Maud's for Tree Hugger. Maud is definitely the best Earth pony, even better than Apple Fritter. I'm guessing the droppy eyes is a way to imply that Tree Hugger is stoned out of her mind?

It's not "literally" a spot, but so what? The Sea of Tranquility isn't actually a sea. The Kuiper Belt does not hold up pants. And Jupiter itself is a planet, not a Roman god of yore.

You made the claim, you defend it. What have you got against the GRS?

For example, this fellow (whom I'm guessing you lifted your statement from) raises the point that the GRS is probably white, and that the red coloration (actually more like an orange-sienna, if you ask me) is simply the small, outermost layer of the storm system. But it's still the part we see, and thus the part which should give it it's name! To illustrate my point, consider human beings. We can break down people into skin tones - "black", "white", "yellow" - yet actually, if you go down into the various layers of organic tissue beneath that skin, you'll find that human beings are predominately a reddish-blackish yellowy-pink. The outermost layer of skin is very thin, and one need only peel it off to see that that a "black" person is not black, a "brown" person is not brown.

Yet we can still use these terms, because they describe what we see! The color we see is what matters, not the color which constitutes the greatest volume of an object.

I put it to you, Mr Holmes, that saying "well ACTUALLY, the Great Red Spot isn't red", for the reasons stated in this video, is simply an exercise in smugness.

Agreed 100% Boomer. I think the point of "iPhone music" is that it's supposed to be disarming and non-threatening. I get the "Here's another product that just lies there." vibe, too, but I don't think the advertisers would mind me having that feeling much. As long as I'm brushing this off as just another product that lies there, I'm not worrying about other stuff, like whether KFC is going to be mining my data, why modern mobile devices (with their ever-flimsier touchscreens) almost never have peripheral keyboards available already, or whether I should even be eating at KFC in the first place. Instead I am focused on the soundtrack, and I wind up mildly annoyed with the music, mildly interested in the product.

Better soundtrack. Mute left:
