Pageviews. We're living in a post-Rebecca Black world, and the youth of today knows it.
Rap Jam Vol 1 (SNES 1995)

DefJam was awesome, but I never forgave WuTang for Thrill Kill. I know it wasn't their fault, but someone has to take the blame for Thrill Kill's demise, and it might as well be them.

And of course they signed on to this. Rappers will sign on to anything, as long as it gets them malt liquor and chicken, or whatever the hell it is those people eat.

In all seriousness, maybe this was seen as a way of reinforcing street cred? Urban youth do play basketball in shitty neighbourhoods, and that is the motiff most rappers were going for back then. I can see why you find it disconcerting (that was my first thought, too)... but really, would this be any worse than, say, a hypothetical game with Slayer in Hell? Or Revolution X, a game with Aerosmith shooting teachers, parents, and Sonya Blade?

I don't know why Warren G signed on to this, though. Besides the money, I mean. Coolio and Flava Flav, yeah, but Warren G?!

The funny thing is, this was from before I started watching the show. It's weird to see year-ago me troll-commenting on MLP.

I'm not a brony, though, and I don't know why you think I am. I think the show is brilliant, yes, but I don't consider the show to be a part of my personal identity, and I don't associate with fans outside of the other PoEnies here on poeTV.
Sony's video for Michael Jackson on how they manufactured his HIStory CDs

I always wondered what it would be like to be Michael Jackson. I assumed there'd be more lolis.

Is there any backstory to this? Context?

Hey, I LIKE the Hobbit movies. They can pump Tolkein all they want; as long as they don't get Michael Bay or Joss Whedon on board, I'll keep watching whatever Hobbit-branded turd Hollywood can offer.

Oh! Oh, shit. Nintendo does have a console this generation. When did that come out?

Media corporations need to retain the rights to their IP indefinitely, because otherwise they might have to come up with new ideas.

I'm wondering this too. I'm in the market for a new desktop, and my budget is rather high at the moment (up to $2000 for the whole rig, before peripherals), owing to some good deals I got on my piano. I've been out of the video card loop for awhile, so hell if I know which ones are worth the money and which ones aren't.

I really wish new video cards would be marketed with some objectively measurable designators, like you find when you're shopping for CPUs, harddrives, or RAM. A 2.8Ghz Duo Core and a 2.4Ghz Quad Core, I can understand what those things mean, and make a basic comparison between the two products at a glance. But an ATI Buttmunch G5000 and an NVidia XCLOP9999-W mean nothing to me, not without pouring through mounds of reviews, paid reviews, and forum posts by overclocker-lifestylists with rich parents. So any recommendations on good, one or two tiers down from cutting edge video cards would be appreciated!

I call it the PSX myself, but that name was later given to a Japanese-only PS2 variant, so I can understand why an alleged uber-nerd like Sheldon would decide to forgo old school terminology in this case.
Cube 2: Hypercube - trailer

I've seen the first and third ones, and they are very good. Yes, like most horror films, people get killed off one by one, but there's a lot of psychology, and a real atmosphere to these movies that you don't find in spatter films. I've seen a lot of horror films, and these are some of the best - bleak, relentless, almost claustrophobic, clever without being pretentious, and gory without being over-reliant on blood. It's low budget, high concept psychological horror from some underdog filmmakers in Canada, so yeah, I'd definitely recommend it!

Plus, there was like this one dude who got shot in the face with acid, and his whole body melted off like BLLLAAARRRRR! Right out his pants like he was poopin' or somethin'! It was wicked sick!

Ugh. If he was a real nerd, when she asked "who are 'they'?", he would have said "Microsoft", not "Xbox".

Also, who calls the original Playstation a "PSOne" in casual conversation? Maybe little kids, who only know the PSOne by it's current retconned Sony designation, but anyone of Sheldon's age would call it "Playstation", "original Playstation", or "Playstation One".
Cowboy Bebop - Spike vs. Elektra

( And in case it wasn't clear, in the OP I was referring to homosexual activity and the prevalence of STDs, although the very same pattern of thinking applies equally to cigarette smoking, MMO playing, and other health-conscious moral panics. I think *most* of us would agree, without hesitation, that homosexuality is fine, and that no amount of citing doom-and-gloom AIDS statistics or harping on about how homosexuality is "a compulsion" (not a choice!) would persuade us to embrace, or rather, RE-embrace, a society-wide, Oddeye-style policy of sin shaming and ostracism. So why not stick by our principles and extend this courtesy to smokers? )
Cowboy Bebop - Spike vs. Elektra
04/11/14, 04:47

Ah. So as long as TEENAGERS aren't being gay, people with STDs don't have kids, and no one within the LGBT community makes a profit selling sex toys, under those conditions, you'd find queering acceptable? Otherwise, queering is a warcrime, I take it. Wonderful, oddeye.

And JBF, people who are addicted may still want to continue partaking in their substance of choice. If you're addicted AND you want to quit, then of course I'd support your decision, and I'd like to help you! But there's this pervasive myth in our post-Nancy Reagan world that anyone who is addicted is suddenly stripped of all individual preference; that upon your third cigarette or your third shot of heroin or your third straight day of Everquest, you suddenly WANT to quit, whether you realize it or not. And this isn't true. Not all addicts have clean citizens inside trying to get out.

I fully support anyone who voluntarily decides to fight against their lifestyle, whether by going to rehab, buying e-cigs, attending ex-gay camps, or joining an online Stop the Clop brony support group. I may not always agree with your decision (I don't think being gay is a compulsion you'd HAVE to fix), just as I may not have agreed with your decision to start in the first place (heroin is very bad for your health! Please don't do it!). I work with a lot of addicts, so I'm not trying to belittle recovery or downplay health concerns. But the important thing to remember is, being "compelled" towards something does NOT mean you wouldn't still do this thing voluntarily.

Cowboy Bebop - Spike vs. Elektra
04/10/14, 12:39

OK, oddeye. What if I was to tell you that there was a group of people who, statistically, had a much higher chance of contracting horrible diseases than anyone else, and that these diseases are both life-threatening and difficult to treat. This disease-rate is linked directly to their lifestyle choices, and furthermore, these lifestyle choices are routinely glamorized and promoted on TV, in movies, in books, and even in our classrooms.

What would you say?

I'd say: so what? Because, Freedom. Your body and your health is your own business; it is not up to me to dictate your lifestyle to you. *Even if* the potential benefits of "playing it safe" were to objectively and measurably outweigh the costs to your quality of life incurred by giving up your lifestyle, it STILL wouldn't be any of my business. I might *encourage* you to change your ways. I might do something like go to a college and give a speech voicing my concerns (because that's what any good college is there for, right? Free discourse and debate), but I certainly wouldn't refuse to associate myself, even tangentially, with you. I "might" do all that... but to be honest, I wouldn't even go that far, because frankly your lifestyle DOESN'T bother me, and I'm GLAD you're able to do something you like, risk or no risk! The Rainbow has many colors, and really, what good is living if you can't do something dangerous now and then?

If you're really upset over people making bad health decisions (let's assume good faith here, just for the sake or argument - troll or not, it's an interesting discussion), then perhaps you should focus your energy on treatment and care, rather than on sin-shaming and nitpicky social engineering?
