Lou Ferrigno's ''The Adventures of Hercules'' (1984) complete

Was that Michael Bay movie awful? I just saw the Half in the Bag review for it, and they absolutely savaged the poor film, but in a way that suggested it might not be quite as terrible as other Michael Bay films. (they were in a huff because they thought the film was "mean spirited" and "offensive", which are usually codewords that mean "we're humorless old farts, but if you don't have a stick up your ass, you might actually enjoy it".)

It's Michael Bay, though, so I can't imagine how it could be any good.

What is it?

I've been wondering if we could do something musical (I know a lot of people here, including you, are musically inclined), or an animation/liveaction whatever video, a la Star Wars Uncut. As long as it's not a crowdsourced Johnny Johnny Yes Papa, I'd probably be down for it!

In all honesty, this would probably just wind up being used as a boring old logistical vehicle - quietly ferrying men and tanks onto uncontested beachheads, because missiles and Rangers have already cleared the way. But it's big! And it's got neat flipper-treads! And the fucking Russians don't have them!

He really doesn't seem like that bad a guy! His videos are shit and his characters sound stupid, but the copyright move was great, particularly when you stop to consider that these days, copyrights rarely ever enrich the people who actually *created* the stuff you're reading/watching. You know, like copyrights are supposed to do! Instead, copyrights get claimed by the employing corporations, enriching company owners and leaving the actual creatives as little more than disposable meatsacks, to be sucked dry and then discarded once a property becomes sufficiently brandable to generate steady profits through reboots alone.

Of course, as far as Sonic fans are concerned, the whole thing's upside down. To them, Penders' characters were great (a whole tribe of magic echindas COOL); they're mad because he didn't show sufficient loyalty to SEGA and Archie Comics to just roll over and let them fuck him like they fuck everyone else.

Storming beaches and killing the fuck out of people. According to the hype, the "real" thing will be over twice as large and capable of transporting three entire tanks over all sorts of conditions from up to two hundred miles away, which is fairly impressive. Another purpose is to spend money and turn a profit for state and private military enterprises.

Of course, seeing as this is a Marines vehicle, it probably won't work for shit and will wind up accomplishing only the second goal.

While I'm not a fan of how the comic is going CURRENTLY (the fish people idea is kind of dumb), I'll still take Flynn's take on the comic.

Eh. Marine life societies isn't inherently a bad thing, but the designers did to the fish people what Uekawa does to his MAMMALS, which is making them circle on oval/rectangle (though granted Charmy follows this design methodology but he gets points for trying to be adorable). When it comes to more reptilian or less mammal-like creatures, the official Sonic artists tend to focus more on long faces rather than compressed. Take Vector, he's all serpentine in his design, yet he still fits with the other characters in the series as a Sonic character. In fact his design's probably the most unique out of all the other animals in the series, but you could argue that's because he's the least mammalian of them.

Now you can also argue the artists are trying to avoid the disgust that was Penders and co's realistic animals bullshit that was probably started thanks to SATAM making that acceptable. The chicken in that Sonic Band concept that first showed Vector also had a more true-to-the-animal design, even if it was silly as hell. Bean has a duck bill, the Rogues have beaks, Bark actually looks pretty bear-like, etc.

What I'm trying to get at is the fish people themselves could definitely have some creative liberties that the designers chose not to take in favor of instead making them Sonic and Knuckles base templates + fins, but I digress. Really, I don't find the undersea stuff to be a problem at all, though while not the most original thing in the world it's definitely a first for this series as far as I know, and miles ahead the bs Penders coulda spat out :V

Here's a positive analysis of the Ken Penders affair:

And some hostile counterpoints:

http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=21670

It seems like most Sonic fans consider him to be a heretic and an enemy of The Hedgehog, but I guess he's built a small following around his Mary Sue echidna character (she is the daughter of Knuckles, can control the Chaos Emeralds, and has all the powers of both Knuckles and Shadow, only better)

Apparently this guy has caused a great deal of controversy in Sonic the Hedgehog circles, by successfully copyrighting his own Sonic characters right out from under the noses of SEGA.

infinite zest was in a commercial for a large corporation once

I was in an M&M's commercial once, too. I'm not proud of what I did. It was on one of those old timey film reels, they had it stored in a backroom closet. I was alone, I was a little drunk, it just look so tight and inviting...

>>Well, try seeing it from the prosecutors point of view. You get a complaint about this posting. Do you ignore it? In most instances, you probably could take that gamble and win. But you don't gain anything personally by taking the risk...

I'm starting to get a little concerned about your recent slide into Randianism. Should I... do you want me to call someone for you? We can have an intervention, if you like.

Anyway, to answer your question, no, of course I don't think this kid's offhand remark should have been "checked out". People make casual threats all the time, it's part of being human; hell, I've probably been the target of at least a dozen since just last Sunday. How many of these threats are actually credible? How many of them ever lead to anything? One in a hundred thousand? One in a million? Do you really think it is reasonable for police officers to be dragging a million different people into court, just on the off-chance that one of them *might* really be planning to commit some crime, sometime way in the future? Bearing in mind that this is all using up time and tax money that could have otherwise gone towards healthcare or basic needs benefits or, I dunno, catching murderers? I think the cops used to do that, once upon a time. (related point: PreCrime law and whether mere "prevention" can ever be used as a justification for taking punitive measures.)

As exy said below, if you're really concerned about giving the Stasi the right to drag potential subversives off in the middle of the night, then force them to adhere to standards. Require them to first establish an ongoing pattern of credibly threatening behavior, like- Internet Poster A uploaded pictures to his Tumblr; he appears to be an ARAB in most of them! *Then* you can his ass in. For fuck's sake, you need more proof to secure a search warrant of a suspected serial killer's house than you do to stick a harmless jokester like SolRo in prison for six months!

Another point I'd like to make is that hindsight is 20/20, and the idea that life can ever be made "safe" from things like Bin Laden is complete rubbish. Ever since 9/11 (and probably before), people have been remembering the hits and ignoring the misses, fretting over what could have been done differently, when the simple fact of the matter is, nothing could have been differently. The solutions that get offered for Lone Wolf/ Terrorist scares like these - whether it's waterboarding Muslims because, oh they might destroy America, siccing COINTELPRO on socialists because, oh they might destroy America, or jailing harmless nerds because, oh they might destroy America - these solutions are invariably far more destructive, and effect a much broader swathe of society, than the possibly nonexistent problem that they claim to fix.

But hey, I've got a rock here that keeps tigers away. If you wanna buy it from me...?

@Mr Wildcat And now you see why I'm so disillusioned with everything!

I'd really like to be able to point to a time before the entire country went insane, but I was born in the Reagan years, so if there ever was such a time, I never got to see it. I will say that we should be focusing less on how far we've got left to slip, and more on how we can stop slipping and start climbing back up again - at the absolute best, a similar case more properly handled could be spun as a sort of Scopes Monkey Trial, a show trial to draw attention to just how little freedom of speech means today. That way, you might be able to find a silver lining.

But this case here is totally black and white. As is the observation that this sort of prosecutorial behavior is well within the realm of believability; that's a clear black and white issue, too!
