Kimi Sparkle's Season 4 Wishlist
11/24/13, 20:25

When she mentioned famous J-Pop bands and flashed that picture of Tokio Hotel, I knew I was in love.

This is absolutely brilliant. Her character is subtle and believable, yet utterly brutal and unrelenting. The voice acting is great, and while she's taken great pains to make it PAINFULLY OBVIOUS that she's using stock art from the Pony Creator (that goddamn rearing pony pose!!! She almost trolled the piss out of me with that one!!!), the animation is very expressive and perfectly synced to the dialogue.

This *is* probably one of those things that requires extensive knowledge to be funny, and, having spent the last few days scouring the 'net for more Kimi Sparkle, it seems like many people who *should* know better have nonetheless completely missed the joke. But if you get it, it's glorious.

Thanks, Crunchy Frog!

Who is Mordecai? Is he from Adventure Time?

Also, how do you get into DA groups? Do you have to be nominated to join something like that, do you bug administrators to let you in?

It's good for the fifteen minutes it takes to beat it. Certainly one of the better "pretentious art games" I've played.
The Death Penalty and the Strange Paradox of Innocence
11/24/13, 11:32

I don't think he said that... did he? I'll have to watch it again, but IIRC he ended the video by saying that he DISAGREED with the death penalty, but that the Argument from Whateverthefuck (forgot the posh term he used for it) was bunkum.

I would agree with your conclusion, Mr Wildcat, but I'd take it a step further, and say that, in order to offset costs (which would be astronomical if all prisoners were given the same level of judicial oversight as that enjoyed by death row inmates), we'd have to first drastically cut down on both the number and severity of prison sentences that get doled out, such as by abolishing the concept of "victimless crimes" - that measure alone would free over 85% of all inmates, thus allowing for almost five times as much time and money to be poured into the remaining cases, all without our even touching the budget!

It's not enough to simply make our penal system safer and more robust, we first have to make it less pervasive.

I don't think he supports the death penalty, and he even offers Point 2 as one of his rationales for opposing it. Point 3 is tangentially addressed in his own second and third points, which is that the death penalty is rarely ever an actual "death" penalty, and that it offers a FAR higher rate of exoneration than life imprisonment does, due to the much better level of care and legal oversight your case receives. If you're innocent and you want to survive your stay in prison, paradoxically, you're much better off being sentenced to death.

(also, I do like cartoon ponies, but I'm not fond of horses. In fact, I'm borderline phobic towards the creatures! Growing up, my aunt kept one in our garage, and one night it broke through the wall and smashed my grandmother's legs. They've creeped me out ever since.

Cats and horses, my two biggest fears.)

Do you have any links? Or better yet, any vids you can submit? I've heard him mention his IT "credentials" on a few occasions, but so far all I've been able to gather is snippets, like him bemoaning the fact that IT businesses only want to hire young people who know how to use computers.

Well, what's misleading about them? He raises three points:

1. That focusing on abolishing death penalty on the grounds that it may cause innocents to suffer is emotionally manipulative and misleading, as the death penalty causes far fewer deaths than many other social problems which we are perfectly content to ignore.
2. That statistically speaking, the death penalty saves far more innocent lives than our current punitive "alternative", life imprisonment.
3. That as a result of lengthy appeals procedures, the death penalty is, in practice, rarely anything more than a life sentence, albeit one with a higher rate of exoneration.

I can't vouch for the validity of his statistics, but these are all sensible points, and well-presented. And I don't see him waving around a hate boner at all, at least not in this video (perhaps there's more to this fellow's story than I realize...?)

He's not really wealthy. In some of his newer videos, he offers us a tantalizing glimpse into his real financial situation: he makes around $60k a year (good, but hardly great) and most of that is from his job as "an entertainer" (which is apparently a source of conflict between him and his more materially successful friends and family members). He's a lower middle class Joe Average who happens to pour all of his money into nice suits, hookers, and obscenely overpriced luxury watches.
CLIFF RICHARD - PAEDOPHILE?THE FACTS and the ALLEGATIONS.TONY BLAIR.JILL DANDO.RONNIE KRAY
11/24/13, 07:42

Cliff Richard is an extremely famous British rock & roll singer. Jimmy Savile is the former music presenter who was outed as Britain's most prolific child rapist shortly after his death. One of the most important aspects of the Savile story was that the BBC, and by extension, the British government (the BBC is a state-run media outlet) not only KNEW about Savile's kid-diddling, but repeatedly covered it up, and may have even actively enabled it.

The implication here is that Cliff Richard is/was part of Savile's alleged child rape ring. I wouldn't be too surprised if it were true, to be honest.

I understand Sonidash. I don't LIKE it, but yeah, OK, I can see why people ship that way.

But Fluttertails? Knucklejack? I don't even know who the hell that is shipped with Rarity. OK, Shadowpie I guess I could almost see, assuming we expand Pinkie to include her speculative fanon personality, but the rest of these ships are flat out insane.

11/24/13, 02:40

I don't really consider myself a brony; I don't know any bronies IRL, I don't hang out on brony forums, and I've only spent about fifty dollars on merchandise. In fact, if it weren't for the people here on poe, I never would have started watching the show in the first place. But I don't mind you poking fun at bronies (I do that a lot, too, they're pretty weird!), and if you'd like to use me as an example of a brony, that's cool too!

Thanks for the link, I'll be sure to check out your radio show.

I can confirm Boomer's review of Milkbones. I used to eat those things when I was a kid, and they're just hard, dry, flavourless cookies with the consistency of compacted sawdust. Have you ever eaten hardtack? It's basically that.

No, no, not YOU Old People. The other old people. The veterans at the VA, they're the ones I play it for. They also like my Pantera arrangements, although I suspect few of them realize what I'm playing.

11/23/13, 15:19

Oh wow, thanks Boomer! I'll let you know if I ever record it. I have to warn you, though - I'm not a very good pianist! It's mostly just an idea that I improv around at this stage - I combine and reinterpret themes from various sweet/ romantic pieces that have something to do with Rainbows or ponies, like Rainbow Connection, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and the title song from MLP. I work some Savatage and Jesus Christ Superstar in there, too. The old veterans at the VA's elderly care ward seem to enjoy it, but I think it needs a lot more work. :(

I'm putting in for an art grant next week, and I was thinking of maybe making a video recording to accompany my grant application (I've got this crazy idea to haul my old piano out onto the beach one night and play by candlelight, with a Dashie plushy peeking over the top of the piano as I play!), so I'll keep you posted.

Also, where can I listen to your Doggy Radio? Is it an actual radio station, or do you do podcasts?

At this point, I don't think it's "selling out" so much as "trying to get his first hot meal in years".

Happy Season 4 to you as well, BHWW. I hope the pony you hate the least has a big role to play in tonight's two-parter!
