Exit The Asylum (HD) : Foamy The Squirrel
09/12/15, 05:03

Be sure to read the YT description!

Has the dude who made Foamy always been that insufferable/ full of shit? *Fourteen years*, and the culmination of his artistic vision is "It was all a dream"?!

Wow. I haven't watched Foamy since the Newgrounds days, and to be honest I wasn't even aware it still existed, but have any poesters kept up with it? What other evil have we been missing?
Lazy Town - You Are A Pirate (in Icelandic)
09/12/15, 03:43

No, no, you misunderstand. The piracy isn't canon. They're not *actually* pirates - they're just pretending. What happened is Robbie Rotten dressed up like a pirate and tried to tempt the children away from Lazytown with promises of treasure and adventure on the high seas. It's one of the more blatant Pied Piper/ pagan child sacrifice episodes of the show.

When I say it's canonical, I mean that the series was conceived, and presumably also takes place, in Iceland. Magnus Scheving, the show's creator and the actor who plays Sportacus, was a famous Icelandic gymnast. The initial series of Lazytown plays were tailored specifically for his home country, with all dialogue in Icelandic and characters bearing weird Icelandic names, like Solla and Glępur. Sportacus himself was even, not a superhero, but a "Sport's Elf"! You'd be hard-pressed to get more Icelandic than that.

Now the TV show was originally recorded in American English, as were all the songs, including "You Are A Pirate". Hence why we can speak of American English as being "the original language". (I specify "American English", because for the UK version, the BBC redubbed most of the songs and the puppet-children dialogue into British English) But it's interesting to note that many of the songs in Lazytown Season 1 were written for the plays, and thus, first performed in Icelandic! I've never seen the plays myself, and, while I know for example that the song "I Can Move" was an Icelandic original, I'm not sure if "You Are a Pirate" was one, too - I could double check on the GetLazy forums, but I suspect it was not. Still, an Icelandic origin for "You Are a Pirate" is an intriguing possibility!

Stars for you.

Also for Reymon, because I'm glad to see he's doing OK.

You wouldn't have to rhyme the whole word, just the ending, "-goch". That's a little problematic, because the final phonetic sound of Llanfairpywll' (the Welsh 'ch') does not occur in standard English. It's technically known as a voiceless uvular fricative, and sounds sort of like a "k" or "ch" sound made by someone who's clearing phlegm out of his mouth. You could try to rhyme it with words in a language other than English (German and Dutch words sometimes have this sound), or you could simply take liberties with how you pronounce the final word in your rhymed line. For example:

Coke
Rock
Talk

... could all be reasonably rapped with Llanfairpwyll'etc, so long as you remember to deliver the word in a mush-mouthed manner.

It's not the original language, but it IS the canonical one.

Welshaboo. A Welsh-wannabe, similar to a Weeaboo, only instead of schoolgirls and ninja, he's into schoolgirls and dragons.

And my father was a bitter, drunken, lecherous prep school teacher, extremely well-educated but with nothing to show for his trouble, a fact that my grandparents made sure he never forgot.

In other words, he was precisely the sort of person who'd love Oliver Sacks.

Oh no, I'm not gonna fall for your Oliver Sacks bullshit. Very sneaky, baleen, but I can spot a Sack-attack from a mile away.

I've not had much luck with Privias, either. A friend of mine recommended them in the past, but I've tried a few models, and the keys feel strange. The weight is nice and they're certainly priced reasonably enough, but the plastic keys feel rough and sticky, and they're not very responsive. It's hard to describe, but all the Privia models I've tried have had a very distinctive feeling to them, and it's a thoroughly unpleasant experience!

At home I use a Yamaha DGX-650, and I really like the action on it, but it's far too heavy to move around. There's also a nice Casio Celviano at work, but that model's been discontinued, and again, way too big and heavy to lug around.

I guess what I'm really looking for is a digital piano, without the piano...!

Kid's gonna need a lot of Illuminati training before he can roll in the big leagues with our future president, Kanye.

It's a little off, but to my ear, the discrepancies sound more like a function of the "Channel 4 TV-presenter" accent he's speaking with, than to a failure on his part.

>> MRAs don't talk about MRAs. They talk about FEMINISTS... all the livelong day.

You know, John, it's funny you should mention that, because the only person I ever hear talking about MRAs is you. All the livelong day, even!

Maybe you guys should switch places? The MRAs could talk MRAs, and you could talk about, I dunno, whatever it is you believe MRAs talk about.

>> All this talk of MRAs confuses me because my brain insists on auto-correcting it to MREs, every single time.

Awww yeah, MREs! So delicious. Thank you Bort, I think I shall doing this as well.

Yeah, what OZ said. Llanfairpwllgwyngyl is the town equivalent of that one kid in your 9th grade English class who wore a top hat and called himself "Damyin von Blackwolf"; it's attention-seeking behavior, and should not be encouraged.

He's pretty good! And he's only 17? That's darn impressive. Darn impressive.

If he cultivates his talents, and meets the right people, then I bet this young man will have a long, fruitful life ahead of him.
