He reminds me a lot of this guy I used to chat with like ten years ago. He was awesome. All caps, everything misspelled, always seemed to be high, and I mean, this was before everybody was doing it. He always talked about how one day he was going to buy a van and drive to Amsterdam (from the States, mind you), and how everything in life was going to rock after that. He also talked about the blue people he saw on acid and how they always fuck with you and try to steal your stash and the only ways to kill them were holy water or stuffing them in the microwave and blowing them up. He talked about a great many things.
Now I have Jiggaboo Jones. The circle is complete.

Hank, I sincerely wished video game companies listened to the fans. Sadly, they don't, and send you one of those "we can't use your ideas for legal reasons plus we have a good enough creative team thanks for playing our games love Konami" letters.
20x longer wouldn't be hard to pull off. Take away some of the cheesiest combos and make bosses have like a million hitpoints... |

Yeah, Alucard came to bring the pain. Look at the way he practically flies to the castle in the beginning. He's not doing it to make the drawbridge deadline; he just doesn't want to mess around.
The older Metroid games don't start you out with anything special. I think the one most people will remember of the older ones is Super Metroid, where you just have basic equipment starting out. You didn't "Lose anything", but miraculously, the planet you're on is filled with goodies, and you don't even need half of them to beat the game.

Oh man, I had that Dragon shirt when I was 15. I always wondered what happened to it.
We didn't so much play AD&D back then but try to find ways to play a pretty much different game. There were so many optional rules that we just made up our own optional rules as we went. Like we never started people out on level 1. It's rought being a level 1 Wizard, with only one spell at your command, and everyone always chooses Magic Missile. So we'd let people be anywhere from level 2 to level 4 starting out. Blasphemy, I know.
People were always like 'what Campaign are you playing?' and I was like "my own." and they'd go "what do you mean?" and I'd go "I made up my own world, my own gods, my own maps, some new creatures, weapons, etc." and they'd go "jeez, you don't have a life, do you?" and I'd go "I made it all up at school.", which I did. I'd sit in class drawing dungeons and talking about traps with this dude named Rusty.
Looking back, I'm glad I grew out of it, but it was an alright way to kill the time. |
