I've been going through this religious funk lately, and this man makes all of the thoughts I've had recently.
The one small, niggling little detail he misses is that the Baptist sect empowers a great deal of this through it's policy of "Don't agree, start your own congregation." This basically leads to millions of teeny tiny little cells that all are in one hundred percent agreement with each other within but are usually quite angry with each other outside of that cell. Baptists, and their Evangelical brethren (Pentecostals, Church of God, etc.) all are basically at odds with each other about the details, which further empowers the overarching despots by creating unnecessary competition.
