Every time free capitalists bring up the USPS as an inferior example, they shoot themselves in the foot. UPS and FedEx make heads and tails profit by being better than the USPS. Sure, they're not in charge of our birthday cards or our junk mail. They still make an enormous profit on expedited services, which is what the private insurers SHOULD be thinking about.
Yes, I mail things via the USPS, and I wait in line, and I get pissed off at the surly do-nothing at the desk, but I do it because it's cheaper. I don't agree with Weiner that there should be SOLELY a public option, because the private insurers could easily stay in business and maintain their profit by providing the E-Ticket alternative to those with more money than patience. |
