The tortures of a memory of a lost love
10/15/12, 23:30

Yeah, that's pretty well established.

There's a lot of darkness to Schultz that he deliberately played down, and a lot of it had to do with his frustrated desires to be a Walt Disney-esque media tycoon. The saga of his building a hockey rink and trying to attract a team to it in Northern California left him bitter and really angry, and finally he just gave up and gave the rights to his characters to Knotts Berry Farm.

I will have Arrakis back for myself! He who controls the Spice controls the universe and what Piter did not tell you is we have control of someone who is very close, very close, to Duke Leto! This person, this traitor, will be worth more to us than ten legions of Sardaukar!

The last straw for Burton was when The Lady Colyton insisted that she designed the costumes herself, which went beyond his ethos.

Yes, she insists on her name always being written out "The Lady Colyton", apparently.

It was originally a concept laid out by Jay Ward Studios, to be an animated cartoon. There was some kerfuffle about ownership of the property, and Jay Ward let the writers take it.

Meanwhile, Charles Addams had been dating Jackie Kennedy at the time (yes, you read that right), and she put him in connection with ABC, who wanted the Addams Family. The two projects were developed, ABC thinking that the Jay Ward animated show would be a kid's show, and felt that Addams brought with him a degree of class as a New Yorker cartoonist.

Jackie later stated that she adored Chaz Addams, and felt they had a mutual connection, but being the wife of a national martyr meant she couldn't marry him. Addams' second wife, who he married after Jackie was out of the picture, was so wildly obsessed with living in the shadow of Jackie Fucking O that when he died, she went and married a minor British aristocrat and became "Lady Colyton". In true Addams family style, she took out a $100,000 life insurance policy on her ex-husband and lived like a queen, and essentially stole the film rights from Addams' third wife, who now runs the charitable foundation in Addams' name. (Incidentally, Tim Burton was originally planned to direct the 1990s movie, but Lady Colyton was so deeply obsessed with control over the project that he left to do "Nightmare Before Christmas", which was a good move for him.)

I really should just put all this together and get a Master's Degree from University of Phoenix or some shit, my ludicrous encyclopedic knowledge of cartoon historical ephemera is getting out of hand.

Are you sure you don't mean Scott "Carrot Top" Thompson? Two wildly different comedians, one very boring name.

Peter Tripp's story- Sleep Deprivation and Top 40 hits

Had the noise dampening effect.

At one point I was about four days in, and I just started wandering the streets of Olympia, aimlessly. I wound up at one of the cemetaries, and I started seeing ghosts, just nonchalantly sitting on top of their tombstones. They were sort of vaguely humanoid blobs of SHAPE, I can't really describe it. Not like any special effects in any movie, ever. One at a time they started asking me for cigarettes, and I remember feeling terrible that I didn't have any cigarettes for them. I remember that struck me as terrible.

I wasn't scared of the ghosts. The real terrors were when I got back home and tried to close my eyes, and I saw everybody I had seen that day, zipping past my eyeballs at a high speed, hurky jerky rate.

I went four days and started talking to a painting of a parrot. I observed it flapping its wings and squawking at me.

"His career soon suffered a massive downturn when he was involved in the payola scandal of 1960. Like several other disc jockeys (including Alan Freed) he had been playing particular records in return for gifts from record companies. Indicted only weeks after his stunt, it emerged that he had accepted $36,050 in bribes. Despite his claim that he "never took a dime from anyone", he was found guilty on a charge of commercial bribery, receiving a $500 fine and a six-month suspended sentence. Even his wakeathon record did not endure for long. Other DJs had quickly attempted to beat it (such publicity stunts being common in radio broadcasting at the time) and Dave Hunter, in Jacksonville, Florida, soon claimed success (225 hours). Six years after Tripp's record, it was smashed by high school student Randy Gardner, who lasted 11 days."
