Border Patrol Gets Flummoxed
04/19/09, 02:07

Not surprising. Sane people would realize that the best course of action for them is complying. But even if I disagree almost everything he says, I'll defend to the death his right to say it.

...okay, preferably not my death, but that's because I'm one of the sane ones.

I believe he did technically violate the law, in that they asked him to provide identification when at a border stop within 75 miles of the border, and he did not comply.

Of course, several of the agents' statements and actions prior to that violated the law, and overall he did a good job of asserting his rights, which is always risky and hard to do.
Gresham Barrett booed at tea party rally
04/18/09, 23:14

I actually feel for this guy. Whether by order of the GOP, or voting his own conscience, he did what every single member of the Republican party (except Ron Paul) knew was necessary. He voted to take action to prevent a banking collapse that would have been devastating for the US economy. The GOP were giving subsidies, tax breaks, and deregulating these banks like crazy. There's never been a corporate subsidy they didn't like. But when it actually became necessary, they strategically maneuvered to only provide the minimal number of votes, so as to tag the Democrats with it.

Gresham Barrett voted exactly how every other member of the GOP (save two or three actual libertarians) would have voted, and how all those people at the rally would have voted had they been informed and in a position of power. Now he has to apologize for taking action to save the economy, and voting honestly. And good on him for having the balls to get in front of the hostile crowd, even if I wish he would defend himself rather than backtrack.
The Day Science Took Over
04/18/09, 22:56

Keep in mind, the old "Reefer Madness" and "Red Storm Rising" movies seems funny now. But the people behind this ad saw those films, and believed them. They sincerely believe that anyone who threatens "the American way of life" (as defined by those people at that point in time) also threatens their lives and freedom.

In short, its just like the "teabag parties". No one is crueler when in power, and therefore no one is more afraid of someone else having the stick.

Waking up Canadian

What's more disturbing than waking up with a strange man in your bedroom?

Waking up with a picture of the Queen in your bedroom.

I will gladly cede this and all future arguments with you, and donate $1,000 to the Palin campaign fund, if you could stand one day of these "sissy interrogation techniques" without breaking down crying like a little girl.

"Tactics included using a plastic neck collar to slam detainees into walls, keeping the detainee's cell cold for long periods, and beating and kicking the detainee. Sleep-deprivation, prolonged shackling, and threats to a detainee's family were also used."

Is there no cognitive dissonance in whining about Obama's executive powers, while defending Bush administration memos that 'literally' state that the President is not bound by the Constitution or any other checks and balances whenever he so decides its in the national interest? And in saying they were "productive" can you point to even a single piece of evidence supporting that?

I'm not sure there's a distinction between "guy who posts on website" and "some guy".

Joe The Plumber tells you to vote for no taxes!
04/17/09, 16:54

"Are you tired of being forced to file a tax return every year?"

Yeah, I think I'll take my advice from someone who wasn't convicted for tax fraud.

"Now is the time we're pushed up against the wall, and we get up."

For eight years of deficits and constitutional abuses, they told everyone to shut up and play along. 12 weeks into an Obama Presidency, and suddenly they're so oppressed they have to secede. Its like a toddler holding his breath when its someone else's turn to hold the ball.

Just remember these are totally non-partisan grassroots events. Its all about people protesting the tax cuts. I mean increases. I mean the deficit. Wait... was it spending? That can't be right. Hmm.
Land Before Time
04/16/09, 23:49

Again: WHAT FUR?

What are you talking about? Why is Don Bluth or dinosaurs worth one star? If you have a reason, I'd love to hear it. I know the director has made bad movies since, but a reasonable argument as to why 'Land Before Time' is bad, is worth more than an explanation for quantum gravity.

What fur? Where is there fur in this movie? Do you even know what its about?

I love the movie, but I'd rather it wasn't subtitled.
Anderson Cooper: It's hard to talk when you're teabagging
04/16/09, 20:54

Really? Where did you get that number from? The non-partisan sources I'm seeing say 300,000.

Anyway like I said, well done. Its not easy to gather get that many people to protest... uh... whatever the teabagging was about. Its just that those anti-war demonstrators make it look easy.

15,000? That's very good for a first try. Well done. *pats on head*

You should write a thank you note to Fox News and the RNC. Maybe with their help, you can some day get numbers that are actually impressive. And maybe even a coherent message too.
Indiana Jones and the Nuclear Bomb

Its wacky! All animals are wacky! And its evidence of Lucas' promise not to use unnecessary CGI!

I have not yet seen this movie, and hope never to be subjected to it. I still deeply regret seeing Transformers.
