Although I admit I spoke too broadly, that last comparison is ridiculous. Calling everyone faggots and pissing on flags would get your ass kicked in Switzerland, or a Buddhist monastery.
And yeah, there are reactionaries in both countries, but in terms of official policy and standard practice, I think its objectively clear that most of Ireland is less reactionary (not so much the northern part). You just don't see Irish 'Fox News' reports about people properly disposing of flags. Its not a matter of which country is better, but which approach I think is better. |

Fair enough, I was being too broad in my statements, mostly reacting to Billy and that recent "Mexican flag being cut down" video. And there are Irishmen would break a bottle over your head for disrespecting the flag or singing God Save the Queen in the wrong pub.
Overall though, Irish kids aren't required to salute the flag and we're suspicious of attempts to indoctrinate nationalism, except of course at sporting events. And I think its a healthier attitude. |

What on Earth are you talking about?
Prop 8 won by just 4 points, while Obama won by 24. This was after a 2000 election in which the gay marriage ban was shot down by 28 points, and after polling this year in which it was expected to win in a landslide. And this after the Mormon Church in Utah invested 50% of the total funding for the Prop 8 Campaign.
If not for out of state efforts, it would have passed. And the year of Obama's election corresponded with far more people supporting gay marriage. The simple fact of the matter is that this homophobic bigotry is nearer to death each generation. |

I find it helps to play the demo, then drink until you blackout and forget it. Repeat 16 times and thats an improved experience to playing the whole game. |
