Mega64: Nintendo's 2011 lineup.
07/14/11, 01:20 That's not fair, he left out the only reason I'd ever think of buying a 3DS. You know, the port of that Zelda game from 13 years ago. That I have three versions of already.

LifeChurch.TV: Satan's Sex Ed Interview
07/13/11, 23:48 The only bad thing Satan takes credit for is plagues, but the Bible makes clear God's the one who visits down the plagues and kills first-born children.

Audience with the Queen -- Cat Clips #117
07/13/11, 21:49 I demand a full length feature film. Plus two increasingly disappointing sequels. And a failed attempt at a TV pilot.

A clip from the 'The Smurfs' movie
07/13/11, 21:43 "How do you procreate if there's only one female? Do you take it in turns? Is Pappa Smurf all your dad? Were you about to die out before Smurfette showed up? Why did the wizard trying to kill you send you the one thing you needed to survive? What kind of message does it send that your only female was brown haired and ugly when evil, and blonde and pretty when good? In fact, why are the villains all extremely ugly? Why would someone make this movie anyway? Did they see how the Chipmunks made money and simply dig around in a franchise bargain bin? Don't they realize they can't market 30 Belgian cartoon characters nearly as well as three recognizable American cartoons right? Why am I doing this anyway? I'm getting married soon, and all I'm going to hear are Smurf jokes. This after banking a ton of goodwill at the Tony's with all the gays who'll be there. I'm supposed to do good movies then sell out when I've made it, not transition from TV to sell-out dreck. What reason do I have not to squish you flat and leave this very minute?"

Rick Perry and Friends: Meet the Prayer-Rally Supporters
07/13/11, 17:16 This shit wouldn't fly even in the Batman serial:
Riddler: Riddle me this Batman! What hundred-ton woman changes color, has only moved once, and is a symbol of demonic possession?
Batman: ...well I would have said the Statue of Liberty, but that last part makes no sense.
Riddler: Solve this one then if you can! Who works to further supreme evil by being a decent generous person, seeking to better the world and themselves without imposing harm on others!
Batman: No-one you idiot, it makes no sense. Whatever new medication they've got you on is clearly making things worse.
Riddler: He's a conundrum even you can solve bat-brain! What does Damian Wayne have in common with mysterious bird deaths, last April's stock market crash, and my sister Jackie announcing she's lesbian? That's right, they all resulted from sex with a D.E.M.O.N.! All the answers are there if you read your Bible!
Batman: Stop messaging me you fruitcake.

Rachel Maddow: Rick Perry's Prayer-Fest Supporters
07/13/11, 17:01 I wish I could laugh at this, but it's not funny. My future is being crapped away because lunatics run the asylum, and all those kids in the audience are having their futures crapped away by being frightened and manipulated into delusions where their brains and basic emotional needs are labeled as things to be hated and feared.
This is my objection to people who want special respect and consideration for religion. All you need is enough people, and any story or moral principle, no matter how evil or insane, is suddenly treated as normal when it shouldn't be. If these people claimed sex with leprechauns caused disasters, they'd be locked up and medicated rather than allowed to run our country. But change the name of the magic creature, and suddenly it's a matter of faith and trying to persuade people that personal, unsubstantiated and irrational beliefs shouldn't be allowed in public policy, is now seen as a radical and unAmerican infringement. |

Gay To Straight Therapy at Michelle Bachmann's Medical Clinic
07/13/11, 12:57 I like slacktivist's essay, and I certainly taken the point that Christianity is defined today more by a selective historically influenced understanding of the Bible than it's actual content. In fact that was the point of my first post, noting that same sex relations is never specifically condemned, it's always in the context of prohibiting broad ranges of acts that Christians are mostly okay with.
That said, the essay discusses why gay-bashing is such a 'defining' attribute of Christianity, since why it is an attribute is obvious. The Bible tells followers that God wants them to kill gays, and nowhere says 'just kidding'. Like other horrifically amoral acts the Bible commands, it'll (mostly) fade out of existence once there's significant societal resistance. But in the meantime we've had thousands of years in which 8% or so of the population has been forced to live a lie, or be killed either by the state or church. Studies have repeatedly shown historical correlation between gay bigotry and Biblical influence both personally and on societies. If the negative influences of the Bible are excused because people are motivated by other factors when choosing which to apply, that'll wipe out the argument for any positive influence it has as well. |

Siskel & Ebert: Worst of 1990
07/12/11, 23:13 Back in my day, heroes were a steroid freak dressed in an American flag, an uncontrollably violent green radioactive mutant, and an eccentric billionaire who ran around beating people up while dressed as a bat along with a young boy dressed in neon short shorts. You know, real role models. |

Gay To Straight Therapy at Michelle Bachmann's Medical Clinic
07/12/11, 22:56 While that first part is true, I've no idea what the basis for the second statement is.
Tolerance toward homosexuals is very closely linked to religious identity and affiliation, and historically Abrahamic cultures have been more intolerant of homosexuals than others specifically due to Old Testament teachings. I personally know people who are fine with gay people as individuals, but feel compelled to oppose their rights and support bigotry because they believe it's required by God. Prejudice would still exist to some extent without religion, but the Bible's got a hell of a lot to do with it.

Daily Show: News of the World Scandal VS Casey Anthony Coverage
07/12/11, 18:53 So ABC viewers glued to the screen in hopes of watching a woman fry, were actually subsidizing the defense team that got her free. Hell, their continued outrage will now give her a nice nest-egg to retire with.
We've already had a story of a reality TV host who murdered people so he could report on their murders. Maybe Murdoch ordered News of the World to wiretap world leaders and dead heroes in order to generate stories for his other publications when they got caught. Nothing is implausible anymore.

The Consequences of Feminism
07/12/11, 17:35 He starts by saying it's 'obvious' how feminism takes away the ability of men to act like men, but stumbles around while avoiding saying what it is.
Don't be all passive-aggressive and cowardly like a woman. Be direct and assertive like a man, and just explain 'feminism takes away the ability of men to control and dominate women as written in the Bible, by giving them equal rights.' Everyone watching knows what you mean.

A debate between a young earth creationist, and a different sort of creationist.
07/12/11, 17:01 There's a simple test. Are you willing to say that you 'know' that something exists or doesn't exist? Even if you can't rule out the possibility of magic, delusion, or the laws of existence suddenly becoming optional? Then you should also be able to say you 'know' that God exists or doesn't exist. There's no reason to create special 'exceptions' for God or religion from the rules we use everyday. The only time evidence can't be weighed is if the definition of God is vague and changing on a whim, or if it's so broad as to be useless.
Of course if a person goes on about how we can't 'know' anything and reality is all subjective, then they'd better either be willing to walk into traffic, or cop to having some useful standard of knowledge they are selectively applying when it suits them.
Atheists simply don't have a belief in God. Whether they claim knowledge is possible makes them gnostic or agnostic atheist, but still atheist. I know people disagree on the terms, but any definition that requires absolute certainty as opposed to ordinary knowledge just leaves everyone agnostic (with religious people simply in denial about it), and so isn't useful.

A Message to the Atheists
07/12/11, 16:37 He's right. It's total insanity to waste even a second of your life criticizing other people's beliefs.
Which is why people who criticize racism should shut the hell up.

Gay To Straight Therapy at Michelle Bachmann's Medical Clinic
07/12/11, 15:52 God said it was bad. Well, he mostly only talked about men doing it, and it was in the specific context that all ejaculation that doesn't result in procreation is evil, but still, just like kids on the schoolyard, people always need someone different to pick on.

07/12/11, 15:42 He's the discipline daddy.
Normally I'd be all for criticizing a politician for lying about gay deconversion. But here I'm not. Because criticizing Michelle Bachmann for specific issues and unfortunately common prejudices distracts from the more important point. SHE'S CRAAAAAZY.

Michele Bachmann 'Wives you are to be submissive to your husbands'
07/11/11, 23:07 Since this obviously doesn't reflect the norm (excluding the elite and the bottom-feeders, it's still an intellectually challenging profession), the question becomes: Why do the people you associate with tend to be disproportionately stupid?
