President Obama's Speech To Muslim World In Cairo
12/20/09, 18:02

"Randomly pick 5 Muslim-majority and 5 Christian-majority countries, and run around saying you're an atheist in all 10. See what you get."

As an atheist, you might want to try taking a more scientific, examination of the issue, rather than what you want to be true. Specifically in terms of accounting for other variables.

True, more Muslim-majority countries have repressive regimes. But religion isn't nearly as reliable an indicator as income, military history, and the type of government. Uganda is an 84% Christian nation that executes homosexuals, and Morocco is a prosperous, progressive Muslim country. Even a cursory examination of history shows that for much of our history, Christian-dominated Europe was more backward, violent and intolerant than Middle Eastern states. And our own renunciation of slavery and the murder of atheists and homosexuals is quite recent, less than 150 years, the separation growing based on the enlightenment and industrial revolution, rather than any difference that exists between the religions.

You could argue that Islam leads to poverty and tyranny whereas Christianity leads to progress, but clearly for longer periods of time than our modern era, the opposite was true. In fact, part of the way we were able to get ahead of other states was thorough the violent conquest and enslavement of indigenous populations, justified through Christianity. Its not clear that the Koran is any more violent or restrictive of rights than the Bible, unless of course you start to ignore those passages that are clearly now offensive and wrong.
Teabaggers Visit Sen Bunning's Office

He says that giving tax money to those who aren't working is just like Hitler. Sure, any reasonable person knows that assistance to the unemployed has been common practise for about a century, and Hitler came to power by villainizing communists and taking from minority groups in order to prop up an imperialist, xenophobic, Aryan majority.

But what strikes me as funny, is that there's NO DAMN WAY this guy hasn't been writing in year after year, under Bush, Clinton, and god knows how far back, to complain about money going to "ghetto welfare" and Mexicans. Either we've been living under Hitlers for decades, or there's an 'x' factor about Obama that turns pedestrian concerns into pants-wetting terror. Hmm...
Fun with Guns: Viligante DC Cop Dishes Draconian Martial Law for Snowball Fight
12/20/09, 03:24

As bad as the situation seems, the video misses the worst part.

The plainclothes officer in the coat was in his car, when it was hit by a snowball. He exited the car and brandished his pistol while screaming threats, when people had no idea he was a cop. The anger displayed in the video is long after people got over the shock and fear, and started getting mad. As they should.

Sure, its a stereotype. But at least its plausible unlike, I'm guessing, the entire rest of the episode.

I'd love to hear how attacking an internet provider takes down power generators throughout DC. Just not enough to watch the show.

If it were done well, it might cross that line between annoying and funny. But there's only one or two jokes in the whole trailer, none of them good. Its almost entirely spliced in reaction shots of high pitched yelling.

Its worth making to show to any truthers that still have a modicum of sense remaining, but there's no way I'm sitting through more than a few minutes of this, particularly not after having seen "Loose Change".

Uwe Boll talks about the boxing match with Richard 'Lowtax' Kyanka
12/18/09, 17:22

Newspapers describe him having had a "semi-professional" career and he brags at the beginning of the video that he used to beat real boxers with ease and knew the critics he was fighting posed no threat. Whether he got compensated in this fight is just semantics, when the point is how much he outclassed them.

I've no interest in getting into a protracted debate as there's more than one valid opinion, and I don't deny that they were dumb to agree (unless they were told it was a casual publicity stunt, which I certainly wouldn't rule out). But any boxer who knowingly picks on weaker people for no good reason is a dick, whether they agreed or not. Beating up on the weak and stupid to make themselves feel better about their own personal failings is exactly what bullies do.

I haven't seen Postal, though I might give it a shot. But I think to be a troll he'd have to be deliberate, whereas he seems sincerely deluded. The "Alone in the Dark" commentary was indeed hysterical, but not in an intentional way.

A professional boxer sadistically beats the crap out of an internet nerd for valid criticism, and then acts smug about it. Even if it were happening to someone I truly hated (I don't know much about Lowtax) I'd still think the person doing it was slime. That he's doing it as part of his "all my critics deserve to be hurt because they lie out of jealousy for my perfection" fantasy only makes it worse. But then, its not like he could go much lower in my esteem anyway.
