The reason it's really dangerous to ride on sidewalks in suburbia isn't so much the pedestrians, but the cars again. You run the risk of hitting cars pulling out of driveways or alleys, and, if you're riding at high speed, you have to watch out for cars making turns. They're expecting slow moving pedestrians on the sidewalks and probably aren't checking their mirrors and their blindspot for that cyclist who's going to T-Bone them when they make the turn. |
