A look into the roots of the london riots

One of the most interesting takes on this situation I've seen puts things in a historical perspective. The underclasses have always been there and have always been underemployed and poorly paid when they were. This often led to riots and uprisings which the upper classes usually quelled with violence and prisons.
In modern times we've invented social safety nets which allows the under classes enough of a modicum of income, and dignity, so they remain placid and don't riot. Unfortunately we will always need people on the bottom to take our shit jobs, until the robots come at least.
Unless the "job creators" start paying a living wage for shit jobs then the state will have to step in a cover the difference with social programs. The problem is that even with social programs these people still have shit jobs when they have them and when prices go up and they can afford even less with their welfare, all it takes is a spark to set them off. |
