Dude your making this way more dramatic than it is, let me try again with another quote from the story.
"Dan Barker, a former evangelical preacher and co-founder of the group, said it was important for atheists to see their viewpoints validated alongside everyone else's."
I don't see a cultural indictment of the institution of Christmas here or in the sign that they put up. Do you? could you highlight where exactly the shitting all over Christmas comes in? Its not like they commissioned a giant version of piss Jesus to sit in front of city hall or something. This about a public show of face and raising profile, just like religions tend to do at this time of year. It really doesn't have much to do with Christmas, but frankly neither does Christianity. They're protesting being marginalized, which by the response they've gotten seems to be a valid concern. I honestly don't understand what all the fuss is about, other than that people seem have this bizarre narrative of militant atheists stealing their holiday funtimes.

seems reasonable to me. I think it would have tactful to dial back the whole opiate of the masses thing. But if every other major religion feels the need to make public displays during this time i don't see why the atheists cant do the same. I know southpark has taught us that any sort of activism is totally gay, but atheism hasn't really gotten anywhere in the last 50 years by smugly sneering at people from its collective basement. |

I thinks he meant that in a professional environment you should treat people with respect and politeness instead of using demeaning colloquialisms. Allthough if thats what he was getting at i have no idea what he was doing on people's court. Also there was like five cuts in there, including a very sudden one at the end of the exchange so who knows what their actual conversation was.
But yeah whatever, he looks like a dick so choose whatever narrative makes you happy i guess. |

actually he attended a small school near his ancestral homeland in the (incredibly brutal) Vally of Espedal. The school served as primary and secondary school and it had only one other student. That student went all the way through school with Gaahl, and was the only person he knew that was his age. Upon graduation he killed himself.
I dont care for metal, particularity not the bizarre death cult Nazi bullshit, but this guy is the kind of fucked up you cant help but find interesting. |

hey, im not trying to be obtuse here but was there any indication that these guys were insurgents other than the fact that they have some aks? I mean, dosnt everyone and there brother have an ak over there? Hypothetically, wouldn't you probably want to have a gun if your in a country where there's a chance that at any given moment your neighbors might decide their going to abduct you and your family and fuck you apart with a power drill? I'm not saying i know that was the case here, but there really isnt much context to work with. And it seems kind of fucked to just assume that they must be terriorists simply because they were blown away.
