She says "we need to get these Islamists" and "we need to win this war on terror" like it's the same thing.
Also why are they talking about winning the war on terror to begin with? I thought we all understood at this point that it's just a rhetorical device that you can't hope to "win" any more than you could a war on rain? Or am I just crazy?
Finally, it really is staggering how this whole thing sits on a foundational assumption that to protect the country you need to vote Republican. God am I so glad these people got the fucking boot. |

If I remember right, they were also mentioning Mussolini outright. At that point they lose the ability to hide behind, "but I meant fascism as an ideal!"
And while Mussolini himself had a pretty loose definition of Fascismo (pretty much whatever fed his desire his for political power), Italian Fascism was very clearly a process of removing power from the workers and giving it back to the industrialists, and keeping it there by use of a paramilitary force that didn't take orders from the elected government. It was the exact opposite of socialism.
Anyway, when these blowhards cry fascism, they're talking about the side-effects, and again Italy prior to WWII is the shining example: the blackshirts, the censorship, the view of propaganda as a good thing, the social darwinism, the lack of personal freedoms, etc, etc.
But even that's giving them too much credit. These days is that corporatism isn't universally seen as a negative, whereas the original fascists, while essentially corporatist, had to pretend like they weren't. Today, having your freedom isn't taboo, so fascism is just a general term for a government that does things you don't like. |

It wasn't that secured for a fast food joint in a bad neighborhood. I can think of a few places I've been to with bulletproof glass and teller drawers to stick the food through.
The really crazy thing is those are always the places with the best food. |
