As POEtv's resident medieval historian (unless there are others?) I must point out a few things:
They conflate the 11th century and the 14th.
The tournament or 'tourney' began as an all-out brawl where many died, and was only formalized and dulled-down after complaints made by the church. Only later did it become a ceremonial occasion for young aristocrats to show off to the girls and win prizes.
I enjoyed the 'kill the infidel!' bit towards the end.
This is popularized, schlocky suburban historytainment, but it and other quasi-medieval crap like Game of Thrones keeps the kids interested in taking my classes, and me in a job. |
