Vice: What Kind of Person Goes to a Men's Rights Rally?
11/04/13, 19:24

And if only scholars like Mr. Funk had been around to save Martin Luther King all of those misconceptions he must have had. I can see it now, you walking up to him and setting him straight:

"The white man role, like the black man role, exists to serve the elite. It exists to make a portion of the population easier to control and exploit by defining the boundaries of their experience. It is NOT a privilege, and the great failing of the civil rights movement has been this love affair with whiteness and the blind worship of the power of whites."

It all makes SO much sense now!*

* and by that I mean you've left me convinced that MRAs have done even more mental gymnastics to justify their views than young earth creationists have.
Vice: What Kind of Person Goes to a Men's Rights Rally?

This is an amazingly moronic premise you've got here:

>>>"It is a misguided *idolization* of men and patriarchy to claim that the male gender role itself is a position of power and privilege. If this were the case, patriarchy would be the most just, fair, and empowering social construct ever conceived, since it empowers a full 50% of the population."

Right. That's why our nation's CEO positions, governmental positions, military command positions, judgeships, managerial positions, research and scientific positions, etc. are all evenly split 50/50. And each gender is paid equally for equal work, without one getting an advantage over the other.

Blinders. You've got 'em in spades. But then again, I'm arguing with a internet sex-magnet, apparently.

Who was, ironically, a Christian.

Although, given how she wrecked the company, she embodies a lot of what I've come to expect from Christians when given any measure of power.

I would say that products that are in any way backed by demonic forces would tend to not go bankrupt.

I'm still confused as to why the killer has a Klingon knife, unless that's either an in-joke or a commentary on what Freddie Wong & Co have lying around for props.

It's either something they put on the front of their trailers/films to appear official or the organization exists only as a source of shakedown spam e-mails to real movie studios.

"Hello! I am a high-ranking official from the MPAN and I am being forced to flee the country. If I could have your bank account number, I can upload a movie that is guaranteed to earn you millions..."

Troll or not, that's a next step I've been expecting. The ones who don't go grab weapons and resort to violence, I think, are those that still have an inkling that this is all a mental disorder and/or they don't want to pop the cozy bubble of conspiracy they live in.

The glorious butthurt in the comments is becoming so standardized. One moron even claims the focus on breast cancer over prostate cancer is evidence that women dominate our culture.

The MRAs seem to have the "no true scotsman" thing going on combined with a kind of POEs law: They claim all of these injustices which don't exist based on evidence that doesn't exist and then go on to say their movement exemplifies respect, equality, etc. while calling everyone manginas, nazis, whores, etc.

It's like the Tea Party wasn't just the right flavor of insane for this crop of white males who aren't getting the sex they surely deserve, so they made their own clubhouse out of stuck-together porn mags and self-pity.

Mr. Purple Cat, he has a GUN IN HIS EYES and that's it. Putting his emo personality aside for a second, let's also note that he has a GUN IN HIS EYES that he CAN'T SHUT OFF.

I mean, what good is he? Someone with any number of decently advanced weapons available in the Marvel U (especially, say, a gun) is just as effective. He's also not particularly tough, so he should've died several times over by now.

Hell, he and Angel should've died for good by now. Both aren't immune to bullets and draw attention to themselves whenever they use their powers. People shoot at helicopters in L.A. with no provocation, and given how much people hate mutants, you'd think someone would've taken an pot-shot at these two losers by now.

She was better than Cyclops.

Hell, a woman who had one scene in an old limited series who could change the color of whatever flower she was holding was better than Cyclops.

"Both sides do it" is the refuge of those who grudgingly admit that the one they agree with has done something wrong.

Just because countless people have committed murder doesn't give one a free pass. Doing the wrong thing isn't something where you get a turn to make things "even" or whatever.

It's also an annoying phenomenon I'm seeing more and more these days. Someone who has done something obviously immoral will get up and say "I've done nothing illegal." While that may be true in court, it doesn't mean that the law isn't broken or allows one to do something one shouldn't, like multi-billion dollar corporations evading taxes. In this case, the rules allowed someone to make it impossible for a clean bill to come to the house floor, guaranteeing a shutdown, and that's what was done, subverting even the meager representative democracy we could claim to have.

Lovecraft is very hard to read, and is often more notable for its racism than any actual horror for most modern audiences. I'm not sure if I'd say we've become more sophisticated in what scares us, but I'd say it's harder to scare someone with five-dollar words they rarely encounter in day-to-day life.

His core concept is still solid, and I prefer it for a lot of horror games/stories: Something so big and powerful is out there it could sweep us aside like dust, and (pick one): those lunatics over there are trying to get its attention, it's hiding just beyond our senses, they're waking up, we used to be them, etc.

I think TVTropes calls it "cosmic horror." It's often easier to suspend disbelief with that kind of thing than, say, vampires or wolfmen.

It's like seeing a bunch of posing Men's Rights douchebags trying to determine who's the most alpha by yelling at each other with kazoos.

So if someone slips a loved one of his some roofies, then has sex with her, but she doesn't remember it, then it's not really a rape, intercourse, or anything? Wow, I sure hope he gives speeches to teens about relationships.
Team Fortress 2 Unicorn Hat Voicelines
11/01/13, 20:05

Why hats? Because the game is good enough to bring people back as it is. By adding content (even just costume pieces) and keeping the game free, Steam gets loads of eyeballs. When you fire up the client and when you quit, you see one if not more enticing deals available for sale.

There's nothing wrong with the game or the hats. All that's at play is marketing and advertising, really. Getting mad at the fact you can get a hat shaped like a unicorn is kind of missing the actual point of the whole hat collecting thing in the first place.

This is the same logic they always use. For example, if over 99% of taxpayers don't realize how the 1% screwed them over, then there's no crime and the 1% deserve another tax cut.
