The Problem With Tumblr
08/10/13, 19:08

From what little I know about Tumblr, it's like an insta-reblog site. You see something on someone else's Tumblr (and I think the site itself suggests things to you), you can just click a button and POOF! it's on your blog. There's no thought, no filter, and little critique before a bunch of people have gone "ditto!" to something that's been presented to their narrow interests. It sounds like it's the ultimate echo chamber generator, even moreso than YouTube (and we've seen what that's done for the mentally ill and conspiracy-obsessed).

It sounds like a system that would lead to the rapid jerking of knees. I think such a site would've melted down in the days when "fursecution" was a common byword on the internet.

Dear YouTube: Just because the kid is wearing a bikini top doesn't mean you should associate every pre-pubescent girl with suggested videos of women trying to use their tits to get views. Thanks.

Only if the wipes are flushable, unless you want to be on a first name basis with the roto-rooter guy.

A pity it's on a system that's struggling so much. From http://kotaku.com/the-wii-u-sales-are-really-really-bad-973133897

"According to Nintendo, between April 1 and June 30 of this year, the Wii U sold 160,000 units. Those are global sales figures. Over three months. Ouch."

"Even the Wii outsold the Wii U, moving 210,000 units during the last three months."

That's an upvote-to-downvote ratio I haven't seen outside of neo-nazi or religious hate videos.

I can't believe they don't disable the comments.

"The laughtrack is a joke itself."

It's only a joke if it's ironic, like when you're watching a send-up of sitcoms and someone makes an intentionally bad joke. Which means that they don't believe what they've written is funny, or they don't understand the concept behind a laugh track...

I can chalk cognitive dissonance over a lot of right-wing doublethink to being evil or greedy, but this is just a gaping hole in their beings. It's like a severe autistic trying to understand emotion.

"In order to alleviate the stress of not being able to gate sensory input, nicotine can correct sensory gating deficits for individuals with schizophrenia, but the effects only last about thirty minutes after nicotine intake."

That long? Better get a few cartons of ciggies for the next few days.

"Why the hell are we building sixty billion Imperial Bob-The-Builder Droids?"

"Shaddap." *blaster fire*

"You missed."

From one commenter:

"I've read the book. It was OK. It didn't "change my life" or anything though."

The Randroid Libertard response?

"Then you really didn't 'read' it. I demand you read it again."

I thought they were against use of force? Not to mention the amount of Rand-as-religion crap in the comments is staggering, not to mention depressing.

By the by, the title should be "1.5 tonne" not "15 ton."

You'd have to know the second time around, anyway.

Though I suppose there were Alderaan truthers out there who thought it was an inside job by the Empire... which it kind of was... Huh.

It's stuff like this that reenforces the view that these games (and many anime) are written by emotionally stunted individuals who still think girls would fall in love with them if presented with just the right mixtape.

Then my guess is either the power plant proposal uses the fat as food for some kind of biomass, or it's just one of many things they can use as fuel. As stated, this apparently isn't unusual apart from its size, so just how much fat is gleaned from London's chip shops and other fried food places? Scotland alone should produce this mass in about a day and a half.
Hemlock Grove- Werewolf Transformation

I'm trying to pinpoint when it was that werewolves, even as a concept, stopped being scary.

"You turn into a wolf? That's nice. What's it like having no opposable thumbs and be a homicidal animal in a world of forensics and people with enough guns to down an aircraft?"

Even if silver bullets are in play, it's still just not as weird or chilling a concept as pretty much every other supernatural creature out there. The best we seem to do is to have stories where werewolves are just hairier versions of The Hulk, which still isn't scary.

This might have something to do with it, but ever since the beginning, just about every werewolf movie goes out of its way to show us every inch of transformation their budgets can accommodate, which usually not only violates the "less is more" rule of horror, it lets the audience see the zippers, latex bits, and the seams where CGI meets real-world.
