Merry Christmas from Edward Snowden

His motivations? Like... what, exactly? If it was to somehow make loads of money from what he did, I don't think things have gone exactly to spec.

You know what? Fuck you.

"Judgs: NSA phone program likely unconstitutional."
http://www.politico.com/story/2013/12/national-security-agency-phones-judge-101203.html

"Leonís 68-page opinion is the first significant legal setback for the NSAís surveillance program since it was disclosed in June in news stories based on leaks from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden."

Unless you're like the GOP douchebags that claim if you don't know your privacy and rights have been violated, it's not really a violation, this should be positive thing. But hey, let's put the idea of everything we do being recorded and collected without any valid reasons. Just consider that (1) there's no evidence that this metadata collection has stopped any terrorist act, (2) there's already been abuses of the data by NSA employees for personal reasons, and (3) we're not even allowed to know how many billions we're wasting on spying on ourselves with no results. If Snowden hadn't leaked the documents, we wouldn't even have this small impediment to the NSA creating its own idiotic version of Skynet with nigh-unlimited funds to do so and no oversight.

Again, fuck you.
They Sold Their Souls for Rock and Roll: Led Zeppelin EXPOSED

It is really funny to go back and listen to what they considered "Satanic." Alice Cooper is the son of a minister, and even though he dressed in an "evil" way, all of his lyrics were pretty clean.

I almost wonder if contemporary Christian stuff being given the stinkeye is a combination of seeing it as a threat to more traditional songs/worship coupled with a sort of dislike that religion is seen to be selling out (assuming the artist(s) are successful).

The conservatives have the cash, so it's not surprising he can command high fees. "Not as reviled as Dennis Miller" is probably a bonus.

I can see why they'd think that. Most Christian music, especially "contemporary praise" or whatever they call the soft-rock drone sessions they do these days, sounds like it was extracted painfully from whoever barely wrote the stuff, and that misery is built to be shared over what seems like an eternity.

This reminds me of the many "once you see the faces in the wall, they can come and get you" horror stories that have been written/produced since.

I dislike any advertising that treats the consumer (and teaches them to be) like superficial morons, especially when it comes to complex consumer products and/or durable goods.

Apple's campaigns are the tech versions of using boobs to sell beer, special effects to sell cars, and clowns to sell hamburgers. None of those tell you what the product actually is or does and why it's worthwhile beyond "desire me for emotional reasons."

I haven't seen many MS ads as of late, but I do recall being annoyed by their multicolored hazmat suited dancers a few years back for much the same reasons as above.

@Cog, the only place I've ever seen him say anything about being conservative was some joke right-wing name for the (I think) Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. It was in print form, so I couldn't tell if he was joking or not (saying it in a Colbert Report way or whatever).

Has he ever had any fairly serious "I'm a conservative and here's what I think" moments?

Your view of the GOP obstruction being overplayed by "the media" isn't borne out by the facts. Given your posts above, I don't expect you to read this, but here it is:

http://crooksandliars.com/jon-perr/republicans-unprecedented-obstructionism-by-numbers

And that's just from 2011. They've held up court nominees (by their own admission, especially Ted Cruz) that the nominees' qualifications aren't the issue, but politics between the GOP and the White House are. They've managed to make 2013 one of the biggest "do-nothing" Congresses in history. While I'd love it if fewer democrats took corporate cash, but which party is it that keeps claiming money=free speech? Which one took the case to the Supreme Court that made corporations people? Which party keeps wanting to lower taxes for the richest most profitable corporations and people in the country, again?

It's no wonder people vote Democrat or nothing when the GOP primaries are so dominated by the Tea Party that only the truly insane get nominated for the Republican slots. If you see Michelle Bachmann and Ted Cruz as rational, I pity any children or pets living under your care.

The Lightbringer: A tarted-up antique from a garage sale in Des Moines... and our only hope...

I thought John Voight was supposed to be a decent actor, but he's been involved with the Baby Geniuses series up through this year.

Oh, and take a look at the director's photo. It's no wonder this movie came out so crappy: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1182611/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1

He was caught between the First and Second Laws of Food Service Management:

First Law: A Food Service Manager shall not, through action or inaction, cause a customer to call the local news or post a negative review on Yelp.
Second Law: A Food Service Manager shall at all times be an assholish Napoleon, believing that such "leadership" motivates employees to work harder for less money and for customers to finish their meals and leave.

This is his audience now. Ever since he went overboard with Achmed the dead terrorist, only conservatives find him "edgy."

I think his turban-wearing zombie dummy could've worked, but not in his ham-fisted act. At least, not in a way that would get him a TV or movie deal.

Star Trek: Renegades Official Teaser 2

If it did, they chose a really bad story to rip off. Putting aside the reboot not really being a reboot (they've still got go-go boots and technicolor shirts), the plot was riddled with holes, didn't have much in the way of sci-fi going for it, and set up the ball to be really dropped with the second movie.

I liked that they didn't retcon what happened to Vulcan, and the actors were great choices. I just think they didn't get a compelling story for the film that we hadn't seen some flavor of before in the TV shows. Not to mention I was hoping that the reboot would have been more along the lines of "this is 'Trek in our future, not 'Trek in the future as seen from 1972."

Some friends of mine thought a kind of "fanfic of the week/month" should've been the way for Star Trek to continue for a while. Just get decent sci-fi writers to put out a 2-hour TV movie teleplay set in the 'Trek universe, recycle the props and sets (which have all been sold off, I think), and get a bunch of unknowns/actors who work cheap to grind these scripts out for the viewers.

If by some chance some characters/settings are a major hit with the fans, try using that as a springboard for the next franchise.

Given who runs the WWE and how it's basically a live-action comic book franchise, is it any surprise the people working for her follow along with the objectivist-conspiracy fairy tales?
