Get back to me how a franchise that's supposedly "for kids" includes dismemberment and decapitation.
Granted, a whole lot of the dialogue is as if it's written by a group of five-year-olds, but that's still no excuse. |

As someone who has talked to people who work on the show, the first season and some of the second were the roughest, thanks to Lucas interference. Since then, the writers have been able to do a little more with it and make it, if not halfway entertaining, then "not horrible."
Anyway, this clip above really makes me hope they've shelved the idea for a live-action Star Wars TV show. At least, I hope it won't happen until (again, sorry) George Lucas dies. |

No kidding. What jokes Robot Chicken didn't already do (better) were scraped off the bottom of the barrel by Family Guy. Lucasfilm doesn't get (among many other things, like romantic dialog) that part of the reason the parodies worked is that Lucasfilm didn't seem to want any part in mocking themselves.
Of course, the prequels pretty much tossed that out the window by creating works that are so awful, they almost DEFY parody.
For Star Wars to become cool again, large parts of its canon are going to have to be rewritten and remade. And, in order for that to happen, and this is going to sound really bad, George Lucas has to die, and his toadies need to either be buried with him or let people who actually care and/or have talent take over. |

Knowing? That must be interesting.
You should differentiate between books that are intentionally misleading that are obvious editorial screeds (anything by Ann Coulter, for example) and texts that are supposed to be scholarly works that are presented as ones that are to be used as reference or whose facts are correct with other sections with the author's opinions/analysis.
There's also whole sections dedicated to books that are complete and utter lies. Most of them involve the word "fiction." |

Looking at what happened to Barton's book, it's pretty amazing when a god-botherer who wants to rewrite U.S. history to fit a Christian mold is called a liar by other Christian historians.
I guess that whole lying to further the faith thing isn't always smiled upon.
Unfortunately, I think Barton's book has been picked up by a right-wing publisher, which isn't entirely surprising. |

It seems that Texans have two flavors of racism (from when I was living there, at least):
The first is the straight-up "we-all's is white, an' everyone else is the mud people" kind, which seems confined to smaller, more rural areas. See Vidor, Texas for probably the most famous hotspot of people who would love to run a Sundown community.
The other kind is more of a blacks & whites vs. the hispanics thing. I was told by non-Mexican colleagues, "at least [insert race they didn't like here] are in this country legally."
Then there was just the general hatred of everyone from everywhere who isn't Texan, mostly directed at Oklahoma. That's not really racism, but more of a mental issue. |

Isn't him saying stuff like that grounds for, if one obeys the letter of the law, some kind of trial for treason? It's certainly grounds for a psych evaluation, if not several drug tests.
Not to mention he's pretty much invoking the Huey Newton version of the Internet Tough Guy. If anyone came to Lubbock with more than two guys in the back of a pickup truck with BB Guns, I doubt Robert E. Lee, Jr. here would be anywhere near the firefight.
It's also fun to hear the wingnuts trotting out the ol' "The U.N. is gonna TAKE OVER, so git yer guns an' we'll save the whole country yee-haw" malarky again.

He's just a holdover from when ABC (or whichever network) purchased The Family Channel. All the programming became secular (that is, stuff advertisers would actually pay money to put commercials with) but they had to keep the 700 Club.
I think everyone involved regrets the decision. |
