Objectivism lecture at a PUA convention
09/12/12, 15:43

I have noticed that "Objectivism" is looking more and more like "how to justify being a selfish sociopath to myself and claim the conclusions behind my mental defectiveness is solidly built on a rational footing" in the same way that religion developed that whole "personal relationship with Jesus" allowing any nut with a Bible to become a pastor/minister/high ramalama or whatever.

Or it's one of many useless anime affectations, like fingerless gloves, armbands, collars, and other things they use in place of personality or character traits.

So has this guy and the one diaper-guy who lives in a shed behind his sugar-daddy's house ever met? They seem to share a love for thrift stores, among other things.
5 guns every American should own
09/11/12, 21:06

I was helping to set up for a convention at a rented hall that was sharing the space with a gun show. This was in Missouri, so YMMV as to how "normal" this experience was. I noticed several things:

1. All, and I mean ALL of the (at least six) cigarette-tower-disposal-things were FULL to overflowing, each one still smoldering like oversized incense burners.

2. Most of those coming and going that were over 50 were wearing overalls. A majority of the men were wearing old ballcaps that either had pithy slogans about shooting intruders, a camo design, or the CAT logo.

3. While using the bathroom, two men at urinals a few spaces apart had propped their AK-47-like (they had the curved magazines) weapons next to where they were relieving themselves.

4. I can't estimate percentages, but enough people for me to notice were coming into the gun show, and apparently leaving with their purchases only a few minutes later. It's not so much a convention as a farmer's market to those sorts of people. I mean, pickup trucks would arrive, whoever was driving would sit with the hazards on and play with a cell phone while any passengers hopped out to go buy stuff and take off once business was concluded.

And for all those (Hi, Cena!) claiming it's Liberals who are scared in this debate, I beg to differ. Conservatives are far more easily frightened. They're so scared right now, they're buying guns and ammo in record numbers, since the gun dealers and the NRA are filling their tiny, frightened brains with the "Obama's comin' to take yer guns!" fairy tale again.

Fun fact: Obama has pushed for no gun control legislation, yet the wingnuts fell for the lie four years ago, and they're so stupid they're falling for it again. Have fun clutching your guns, guys. You're a hair away from being as mentally stable as the gangstalker loonies.

"Dickie" lays big eggs? Oh, well. Who am I to judge?

Also, you can tell this was from the early days of white people trying to use rap to "reach the kiddies, don'cha know," since she used the word "tripping" in its original non-slang form.

Right. There's actual injury and there's "He don't look hurt to me, none. He's just bein' a pussy. Reporting live for Fox News"-style ways of portraying said injuries.

Don't worry, this will soon be supplanted by the Pentagon's "Pain Ray":

They shot people during G20 protests? Citation needed.

Also, you're overlooking the fact that if it's easier to do, it'll be done more often. Push a button to disperse people protesting, even if they're doing so legally and nonviolently? Well, nobody will technically get hurt, so why not? Wow, that was great. Hey, let's use it for crowd control at other public venues, or even at gatherings we know are perfectly constitutional and claim they were getting out of hand, because fuck those hippies.

Wait, they complained? They have footage that show they weren't being violent? Well, nobody was hurt, so no problem! In fact, you're asking an awful lot of questions. I think you might need a blast or two before you get unruly...

And you know, the really irritating thing about this crap is I blame whoever researched the X-Files. I think they were the first mainstream broadcast program that wasn't a fringe rant on public access in front of an American flag to put forth the idea of FEMA rounding people up, except it was at the behest of an extraterrestrial conspiracy.

Then 24 came along and made things worse, it seems. Fox has a lot to answer for in just about every division it runs.

Nope. Katrina showed that Bush's FEMA (an agency that worked just fine until George II tried to shoehorn it into the DHS and every other stupid agency cross-talk bullshit he instigated) couldn't even attempt to take over a vacant lot without getting confused about which shoe went on which foot.
A short exposé on Gina Rinehart
09/09/12, 16:49

From an article about her speech:

"Rinehart gave a speech to the Sydney Mining Club, suggesting Australia would be better off if workers were paid they way they pay miners in Africa: “Africans want to work, and its workers are willing to work for less than $2 per day.”"

Because it's always best to make your country race to the bottom. She also wrote a poem that's on a plaque attached to a boulder somewhere in Australia. I think it proves she's a Vogon:

"Our Future

The globe is sadly groaning with debt, poverty and strife

And billions now are pleading to enjoy a better life

Their hope lies with resources buried deep within the earth

And the enterprise and capital which give each project worth

Is our future threatened with massive debts run up by political hacks

Who dig themselves out by unleashing rampant tax

The end result is sending Australian investment, growth and jobs offshore

This type of direction is harmful to our core

Some envious unthinking people have been conned

To think prosperity is created by waving a magic wand

Through such unfortunate ignorance, too much abuse is hurled

Against miners, workers and related industries who strive to build the world

Develop North Australia, embrace multiculturalism and welcome short term foreign workers to our shores

To benefit from the export of our minerals and ores

The world's poor need our resources: do not leave them to their fate

Our nation needs special economic zones and wiser government, before it is too late "

They've got it in their heads that dystopia will arrive with a black leather boot kicking open their door and someone taking away their guns followed by either execution or surveillance from a group of sinister people.

They can't wrap their brains around the idea that those they idolize are already making their votes next to meaningless by either discouraging voting, making it more difficult, or swinging the majority (that's left) with huge media campaigns. They think there'll be a human face that personally hates them, the hero, behind whatever cameras will (or are) watching them when that's too expensive. It'll be (or is) a computer program that doesn't give a shit reporting to another computer that doesn't give a shit, whose purpose is not "I must control the HEROES and make them SHEEP," but "based on their behavior, what can I encourage them to buy?"

The whole killing people thing is wasteful. Those that don't want to play along will either cope or starve, no bullets needed.

I think the greatest horror these morons could face is that while there are subtle forces trying to manipulate them at work, it's from private companies, not government, and blowing shit up isn't it the cards because they're not worth the effort and the resulting cleanup.

It's amazing how much effort these people think would be put into doing Orwellian things to individuals who can't even hold down a job as a Wal-Mart greeter. Not to mention other than some vague "they want to CONTROL us," they don't appear to have any coherent idea as to what their imaginary villains want or get out of the whole mess.

I know, expecting any kind of rational explanation is unrealistic. I just find it funny that some James Bond baddie is going to make some kind of RFID system that will plunge us into the apocalypse, when the richest company on the planet can't keep its phones and other devices safe from hackers.

"The PPACA raises the capital gains tax up to 45%"

I'm all for raising capital gains taxes simply by putting it under the category of "income, because it is, and corporations aren't people, either," but making that connection must have required a traumatic brain injury or a case and a half of Bud Light cut with bath salts.
