I have Satanis on DVD. If the Catholic church was ever going to have a patron saint of trolls, LaVey would be a strong competitor. Some of his followers were pretty awful, though (specifically the creepy, middle aged lady who proudly talks about giving her teenage son hands-on masturbation lessons). |

Fun fact: Mad Magazine authorized the use of Alfred E. Newman's likeness (and a few other Mad tie-ins, I believe) in this movie. After seeing the final product, they had the agreement nullified because they didn't want their name associated with something this unfunny and sexist. |

Back in the 90s the drummer in my band and I were pretty in to this movie. He uncovered all sorts of compelling (but probably coincidental) links to 1960s avant garde art and cinema hidden in it.
The basic gist was that a lot of the "fungus" sets looked a lot like famous art installations done by someone whose name I forget in the 60s; he was also a regular collaborator with Dennis Hopper early in Hopper's career, and was the creative force behind some of the early Devo videos, which ties into all the Devo references in the movie. |

While we're talking 9/11, any PoE NYC people know whether or not the hydraulic suspension on the subway cars is still branded "twin towers" or not? I noticed that back in 2002 and wondered if they were going to change it, but I don't go down there much anymore and never remember to check when I do. |

I didn't see that, but CGI just doesn't sit well with live actors for me. No matter how good the graphics get, they just kind of stick out, and the human acting really suffers.
CGI can be really cool but the way it's used in mainstream cinema is usually just bland and uninspired by my reckoning, and people just don't act opposite a ball on a stick very well. |
