Brown student doesn't believe there really is a hurricane Sandy
10/30/12, 12:08 I was standing on the other side of the barrier when they had the gate lifted, which means I was pretty close to being on PoeTV, which pretty much means I'm an internet celebrity now.
Anyway, this is some quality trolling but he also turned out to be right as far as Providence goes - by 7pm or so it was clear and there was no wind at all, and it has been clear and sunny most of today. |

Laid Off
10/30/12, 07:06 I had a 5mm stone about 12 years ago but after the first two days it somehow completely stopped hurting and I passed it painlessly a couple days after that. It was very strange. |

10/30/12, 00:35 Whoever made the original video did all the hard stuff, t was just down to luck that he chose a song that was exactly the same tempo as Cotton Eyed Joe. |

10/30/12, 00:30 Maybe there are lots of subtle differences we aren't gothic enough to recognize. |

10/30/12, 00:28 The other part is watching cat videos, obviously. |

10/30/12, 00:28 Hopefully I will be posting LESS now, since work was part of the reason I'm online so much. |

10/30/12, 00:27 I don't see him that often anymore and we don't really talk too much about his experiences so I can't really say with any certainty but I wonder if it might have a lot to do with the difference between people who enlisted in peacetime vs the people who enlisted now. I'd imagine before we went into Afghanistan and Iraq the percentage of people who were enlisting for some macho bullshit reason vs. those enlisting out of necessity or honest desire to to something they felt was important was a lot higher than it was once we were deep into two decade long wars. |

Con Ed Station at FDR and E 14th explodes during hurricane Sandy
10/30/12, 00:20 I almost moved to NYC in the spring of 2001. In the decade since then there have been so many things that make me glad I chose not to that I've lost track. Here's another.
Somehow most of New England was spared a second year in a row. It was kind of windy this afternoon and a branch fell and knocked a few feet of gutter off the corner of the roof, but by the time the storm was supposed to be actually hitting us there wasn't even a breeze.
I really hope things don't get any worse in NY and NJ, it sounds really bad right now. |

10/30/12, 00:12 To be fair, the person I know the best joined in '99 or maybe early 2000, so things were a lot different for him. For whatever reason I've noticed that he's gotten better the past few years (for one thing he's not nearly as racist now as he was in 2002 but he's still more racist than he was before he enlisted). I think spending a few years in Germany and Korea were a lot better for him than Iraq and Afghanistan were. |

10/29/12, 23:53 I might have to delegate the PUA video posting to someone else. |

10/29/12, 23:52 The upside is I was already about 95% done putting together a modest luthiery workshop and already have half the wood to make another good quality guitar after I finish the one I'm working on, so as long as I can get another $150-$200 above my cost of living over the next few weeks it won't really slow down my progress in that regard (and making guitars is about the most therapeutic thing there is), but it's going to be a big adjustment going back to a regular schedule instead of making my own hours which is what I've done for the majority of the last 7 years. |

10/29/12, 22:52 True, but this song is like that too so the dance doesn't seem quite as bad now. |

10/29/12, 22:50 I'd move into my parents' basement before I did that, but that's not going to be a risk any time soon. |

10/29/12, 22:49 I've watched friends go through that, there's no way I'm doing it. Nobody I know who has spent more than a year or two in the military is the same person when they come out. |

10/29/12, 22:24 Unfortunately they're on the west coast so I couldn't, but I did surreptitiously make sure that users of a number of high profile digital music vendors will be recommended Krispy Kreme any time they browse for Mac Miller, Jay Z, Tupac or Beyonce mp3s. |

10/29/12, 20:56 the only thing I had to do was loop a couple of parts to make it longer and nudge the start time my a few frames to line the beats up. |
