The 1990 Nintendo World Championships
04/27/13, 23:27 Looking at the 18 and over competitors I'm starting to feel like that very special episode of Mr. Belvedere might not have been as far off base as I thought. |

Cultural Marxism: a CIS story
04/27/13, 19:00 We really need to formally adopt the f:F (frames to FEDORA) ratio so we can track the average rate of fedoras per frame in videos. |

'Homeless' in Austin
04/27/13, 13:24 And what Kingarthur said, although I went kind of the other way (living in a two room studio as a young child up to now where my family has managed to just barely reach 6 figure combined income, paid off a modest, 800 square foot house on 1/10th of an acre in a nice, upper-middle class small town that's too far from a city to be a suburb, and has saved enough money to retire on although they still live on less than they'll collect from social security because it's all they need to be comfortable - which we all agree is about the level the most wealthy should be living at.
But yeah, poverty is fucking awful and I would never pretend to have the first clue what it's REALLY like, because even at our poorest my family was able to afford food and shelter, which puts us near the top of the heap, globally speaking. |

'Homeless' in Austin
04/27/13, 13:16 I was in Northampton with some friends last spring and we stumbled on some suburban crusties in a doorway; one of my friends said something along the lines of "they should put out a 'need money for mangy pitbull'" sign, since they didn't have one yet. And that's coming from a guy who's approaching 40 and still has a beard like a pound of alfalfa spouts, hair halfway down to his ass, and makes his living designing and printing silkscreened rock posters - he's not exactly the voice of mainstream, honky America. |

A nice talk with an Inforwars 'reporter'
04/27/13, 12:31 "pissflaps"
This is Cambridge, not Boston. Make that mistake in the wrong company and you'll be the next to get called as asshat with extreme prejudice. |

Rachel Maddow on Alex Jones and Conspiracy Theories
04/27/13, 10:27 Just a side note:
I just looked up that Debunking 9/11 Myth books on Amazon. The average customer rating is 2.5 stars. The average customer rating for a book called "Debunking 9/11 Debunking" is 4 stars. Way to be the Internet, Internet. |

Rachel Maddow on Alex Jones and Conspiracy Theories
04/27/13, 10:17 Yeah, this is a handy list but not a great rebuttal to the initial statement it was intended to rebut. |

French inventor creates vending thief machine
04/26/13, 23:46 A few dozen cans? It looks like mostly salvage parts, that's the best thing about it. |

04/26/13, 23:45 Does that still work? I thought new machines could detect the tape . |

Beck: 'The Burden of Proof Is on the Federal Government' To Refute My Conspiracy Theory
04/26/13, 23:43 This is literally the same argument that horse farmer in Oregon used to prove hr was actually Jim Morrison back in the late 90s.
Except this time it isn't true. |

Meme - The Trading Card Game
04/26/13, 23:41 Not defending it - listening that kind of crap had all but ruined Monty Python for me by the time I was out of high school (I got better). |

Meme - The Trading Card Game
04/26/13, 18:24 No different than nerds misquoting the dead Parrot sketch 100 times a day as if reminding people that something funny happened once is just as funny. The Internet just made it much harder to avoid, like everything else. |

French inventor creates vending thief machine
04/26/13, 12:35 And by "would have expected" I mean "expected." |
 |
French inventor creates vending thief machine
04/26/13, 12:34 It being Russia and all I would have expected him to smash it with a stolen dumptruck and then strip naked and run through the streets in a drunken frenzy with armloads of candy. |

French inventor creates vending thief machine
04/26/13, 12:32 Back in the 90s a guy I went to high school with spent a couple weeks in Paris and the very first day someone stole his backpack at the airport. When he got home, the thief had shipped the backpack and all its personal contents (clothes, sketchbooks, ID) all the way back to the US, only keeping about 150 francs of cash for himself. He probably spent half of that on shipping. |
