counterpoint: Bush was charming to most of America. He wasn't charming to me or anyone I know that I stayed friends with but...to a lot of Americans he was a fun guy who liked to blow shit up. He had a likeable demeanor that was made more folksy as he went along. Gosh shucks, I'm just tryin' to do mah best here, I'm jus a simple country president bullshit that went over well with idiots.
Romney however...Romney lacks Bush's ex car salesman personality. Bush could cozy up to you, make you feel like you were getting a deal, and that he cared. He had a folksy laugh. He liked simple pleasures, like country folk. Problem was it was all a huge facade and he was pure evil but for the image that he projected, he WAS successful at bringing that when he needed it.
Romney doesn't have anything close to that ability. He can't possibly mimic it and as much as I hate to say it, Bush did have a certain ability to persuade and charm the dickens out of many Americans. I am not convinced Romney will be able to do so because the harder he and his handlers try to convince anyone of anything, it blows up in their faces. He has no ability to charm anyone but donors. This has not failed him before but this is the presidency. America doesn't like someone looking down on them.
And many, many conservatives don't like Romney but are only going to vote for him so that they can get Obama out...unless Romney keeps opening up his flap and distances just enough of them (probably most women who don't like the idea of the Mormon church controlling their bodies 24/7). Romney isn't Bush. He's the businessman stereotype from every children's movie ever made. He hates Christmas and wants to fire everyone so they don't get bonuses. He wants to capture your pet alien. He wants to build an oil well on your community garden. He wants to take away your beer and pornography.
That one should go over well once it's publicized (if anyone thinks of it). |
