They were never good. Sometimes by accident they'd make a cool game like Goldeneye. Nothing's really changed as far as I can tell - haven't played the latest Banjo or Viva Pinata, but visually at least they are the only Rare games that don't look like total crap and they're supposed to play well. |

There is no scrolling in this game, therefore it is not a sidescroller!!!! The first sidescrolling game where you jump is Jump Bug! It is actually a really fun game, though jumping is involuntary (although you can keep jumping in mid air as long as you're ascending, and you can speed up your descent too). There are also parts of the game where you scroll upwards. It was released in 1981! That is the same year as Donkey Kong! Dragon Buster (1984) is the first sidescolling game I know of where you can jump on purpose. It even has a double jump! And the first instance of the double-tap to run. MAME this shit, it's pretty fascinating. |
