You niggas need to stop acting like kids fighting over who has the coolest dad, i hate this kind of discussions. The story pf pretty much every country in the world is covered in blood, no exceptions. Current civilization was formed over the corpses of other civilizations.
Also, the point of work like this, and Grave of the Fireflies, is to show things from the perspective of civilians. People in Japan were kept getting feed of just how awesome their emperor was, and that war was going well for them. Then this shit happens. |

That's the point of a lot of japanese humour, no matter how absurd the material is, most of the time they approach it in a serious way. That is, they never wink at the audience to say they're aware of how over-the-top the whole thing is. They approach it straight and, in many cases, that's what can make the whole thing funny.
Of course, it's a matter of what you find funny, and certainly some cultural differences going on. In the west we grow up we stuff like the simpsons, so, approaching something absurd in a serious way just doesn't come as an option anymore. I like the japanese approach more most of the time, but the "wink" approach can be cool too if done right. |
