I saw Valentine and Brutus Beefcake at a USA Pro show about five years ago. They completely sucked, blowing move after move, pacing their part of the match poorly, and getting winded within a few minutes.
After a few minutes wherein the other guys tried to be good jobbers and sell the big-names' moves, but ended up showing the ex-WWF guys up just by NOT being sluggish crap, Valentine and Beefcake just stepped out of the ring and walked back to the dressing room, without making any attempt to make it look like they were "fleeing" or "injured" or anything. They broke character, turned tails, and went back to the showers.
Fuck 'em. I'm not surprised Valentine's doing backyard shows now, nor should he be surprised. |

Ah, I guess that's why I was confused. And yeah, I went back and listened to the version on the album and noticed the lack of Monie and Latifah...
They played this at the 91 show, with verses from Monie, the Jungle Brothers, and Latifah (I think Dres from Black Sheep filled in for Q-Tip and Phife)...they played "A Roller Skating Jam Named Saturdays"...I was in heaven. |

So you're even somewhat trained -- good God, Enjoy, the Armed Forces NEED people who're trained. Give them something in return for that little entry on your high-school transcripts -- join a cause that you obviously believe in -- prove to the rest of the world (and believe me, Mr. 26%, it is the entire rest of the world) that the occupation of Iraq is a noble cause attended to by noble soldiers!

I wish there was a video for the remix of this song, but even this version is amazing amazing amazing. There's no way I can give anything off of De La's first three (maybe even four) albums anything less than five stars.
Seeing them in 1991 (their first NYC headline) was one of the formative experiences in my life. Seriously. |

"Where's the WMD?" is a completely valid question, considering that the justification Bush and Co. pushed down our throats to justify the invasion was that Hussein had WMD that were going to be used against the US soon (and, of course, that Iraq was tied to 9/11). The fact that both of these justifications proved to be false makes it sort of hard to see the merit in the current occupation -- by removing Hussein, the US has started a civil war, opened up the country to Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups who had been kept out or out of power by the Ba'ath Party, and burned through pretty much all of the worldwide respect and gratitude we've had since the end of WWII. |
