Legends of Cthulhu action figures - TV Spot
12/15/14, 05:43

My son would be all over these toys. His concept of monsters is very Lovecraftian, and has been since we went camping when he was 4 and the spooooooky campfire story I told him was a condensed (and recollected in part via Metallica lyrics) version of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth."
Borderline Personality Disorder
12/09/14, 10:33

Reading up on this 20 years ago, when a close relative was diagnosed with BPD, was terrifying and yet also comforting in that so many of the traits described made sense. I was told that an older male with BPD was really uncommon because "it usually either burns itself out or leaves the male victim dead in the parking lot of a bar."
Scott Stapp Public Statement #1

It bothers me that Dude from Creed has a PXL-2000 and I don't.
My Dinner With Andre (1981) Complete
11/28/14, 14:42

I took this movie out of the library (on VHS from the library across the street from MoMA) when I was 23 and watched it three or four times over the course of two weeks, twice with friends.

A few weeks later, I almost bumped into Wallace Shaun on the street in Greenwich Village, and raised my eyebrows when I recognized him. He looked at me with a combination of disgust and discomfort and walked away from me before I could tell him how much I loved, and was thinking about, this film.

It took me a month or so to recognize that he probably thought I was about to yell "INCONCEIVABLE!!!" at him.
Don't get too close to my fantasy

Best pastiche musical act of the past 30 years.
Butthole Surfers give Lollapalooza ྗ exactly the amount of respect it deserved.
11/19/14, 15:08

I wish I had video of the Bad Seeds at the Saratoga Lollapalooza from 94 (?). As the band put on their instruments and got ready to start playing, Nick Cave looked out at the audience, then back to the band and said into the mic "hey, look, another ten thousand Beastie Boys fans." He then faced away from the stage for most of the show.
Phase IV lost ending
11/12/14, 19:14

It's closer to the ending of the book, which goes balls-deep into beautiful insanity over the final five or six pages.
Ox Baker on The Price is Right
10/21/14, 13:29

Mine have the same shape, if not the same bushiness (but I'm sure that'll come as I become a doddering old man).
Introducing My Baby Reborn Toddler! Tiffany!
10/21/14, 13:28

Your toddler drinks from a bottle and wears diapers? You're not even a good FAKE parent.
Crowd dynamics simulation

This fullscreen on a big monitor plus "Thing in a Book" by Underworld was a perfect way for me to decompress for a brief break from grading at my desk after my students left this afternoon.

Flair Flop Flagrancy?
Ambassador Magma intro (1960)
10/20/14, 14:09

Rodak was a hilarious villain - there's a subplot over a couple of episodes in which he kidnaps kids and tries to convince them that he's the Champion of Kids Everywhere, fighting such things as bedtime, homework and vegetables in meals.
Ambassador Magma intro (1960)
10/20/14, 14:08

I have the entire series on DVD (from a guy who includes the legal documentation that shows that he bought the US distribution rights as well as a signed poster from Goldar. I'll try to find a way to post a picture or two of the Magma/Goldar costume I wore for Halloween about ten years ago. My then-wife-to-be didn't wear a CANONICAL Silvar costume, but she was still adorable.
Ox Baker on The Price is Right
10/20/14, 13:57

One of the times that I most wish, in hindsight, that I had a video camera as part of my phone was when Ox Baker cut a heel promo on my dad in a comic book store in Southeastern Connecticut, near both of our houses.

RIP, Ox. Heaven needed a heartpunch.
God saved my hamsters
10/02/14, 15:54

God saved her hamsters but doesn't bother saving unborn children. And yet this neither puts God's wishes nor God's omnipotence into question.
Film audience sees the Phantom Menace trailer c.1998
09/19/14, 18:17

I saw it opening day, with college friends and my recent long-term-girlfriend-turned-ex. The movie was so bad that she and I decided to peel away from the rest of the group to "actually see a movie." We chose ELECTION, and then fell back into the same shitty codependent relationship for about another year. I blame Lucas for fucking not only with my childhood with PHANTOM MENACE, but with my young-adulthood as well.
Ultimate Maniacs Promo on Ric Flair and Razor Ramon (11-01-1992)

"Cocaine" works as a description.
Surprise Surprise
05/13/14, 19:37

This band should have been shirts-in-the-mall huge.
The TRUTH about furries... or just a rant?
04/21/14, 18:07

These Burzum press statements are getting more and more bizarre.
Power Station play 'Bang a Gong' on Miami vice
04/21/14, 09:37

A billion stars for Buddy Hackett in the white jacket circa 2:01.
