Love how cockroaches looked like pie wedges.
Cockroach AI in Half Life

You realize that 'AI' is just scripting as well, right? As a coder myself, this definitely looks like 'flocking' and basic 'when this happens, do this' behavior. A scripted event would be something that happens only once. This looks like it's just reacting to environment changes (ie "When the light goes on, randomly run in any direction")

Also, five for the Constipation section. That was wholly unexpected and graphic enough to get me giggling for a few minutes. I may be a sick person.

Five for the tagline alone.
Neil deGrasse Tyson has asteroid fear.
03/14/13, 08:06

Think bigger. It's all about degrees in space. A laser can heat up the asteroid enough to cause gas to evaporate off the surface. That tiny amount of thrust can change the trajectory of that asteroid by maybe a few inches when the laser hits. That few inches turns into thousands of miles after the asteroid continues on that slightly new trajectory for a few weeks or months. Done early enough, it could set the asteroid far beyond it's original path so that it doesn't hit the earth at all.

Think of how a bullet is deflected by wind over large distances. Ever scoped in a rifle by changing the scope or sight left or right, or up or down? That is compensating for the effects of the wind on the bullet during that day. If the wind is moving 5mph from right to left, it's not pushing the bullet much, but it's changing the trajectory by a lot over a larger distance.

Ray Kurzweil and the Singularity - Lew Keilar
02/04/13, 07:44

I did a ton of research and wrote a term paper on transhumanism in college a few years ago. I don't for a second believe that Kurzweil is correct. But I also don't think that we're going to just lumber along like always.

Detractors point to the "slowing of moores law" as evidence that Kurzweil is wrong. Moores law has fluctuated greatly over the year. The law was 'invented' during the time of transistors and was originally meant to apply only to them. In time, it came to describe microprocessors. Companies like Intel have taken up Moore's law as a challenge and kind of motto. Their tic-toc development cycle is really pushing this law further along. They want to meet it so that the law stays true. It's a kind of cyclical self-fulfilling prophecy in a way.

Kurzweil's, and really, most trans-humanistic/futurists, in my personal opinion, have a very flowerly outlook on the idea of a singularity. I'm convinced that our human nature will keep us from approaching anything close to the vision they want to believe in. However, I'm not ready to say that their ideas aren't based in reality or that their vision won't happen - eventually, or in some way.

Awful video though.

horrible sound effects added for what reason? And also: bad taste throwing your own video up. Not in the spirit of Poe.
