I couldn't believe all the people saying it was the best written show on TV. Maybe if you grew up on nothing but Halo novels?
Fighters seemed so pointless in the new show when the capital ships could just warp on top of each other and start launching nukes. The whole point of strike craft is having a longer range. |

I'd be interested to know how they still make a profit now that video stores are gone. People would already have their money forked over by the time they realized they picked the wrong movie. Now people just click out of it on Netflix.
Who actually enjoys these? The trailers and fact that they exist are more entertaining than the movies themselves. |

This was the show that blew every kid's mind when their parents/friend first got cable in the 80s. It's hard to realize how groundbreaking this was at the time for kid's programming back then. Imagine years of nothing outside of early morning cartoons and educational shows then having THIS come along. |

There have been tons with cultural subtext, but it's almost always hamhanded and clumsy. That's why it was a strength for DotD(2004) to leave it out entirely.
Are you talking about the original 1968 NotLD and not the 1990 version? I can't find the end credit stills, but I'm pretty sure they weren't actual lynchings. Romero himself said there wasn't any kind of racial angle to the protagonist being black.
I think over time he started buying more and more into the perception that he was some culture critic and his work gradually suffered for it until we ended up with Diary of the Dead. |

The trash talk guy at a pick up bastketball game is an asshole, but you don't deal with it by asking the town for money so you can make a IT SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY public service announcement. You find a different group to play with.
The fact that they're focusing on how this is exclusively a gender issue and how it deserves special pedestal consideration when the target is a woman is more sexist and condescending than any amount of cartoon skimpy outfits. |

I Brad Pitt coming back? I missed that.
Fast zombies + instant infection rule, but I'm worried about the overuse of the "human wave" look. Reminds me of the Zion battle in the Matrix sequels where the sentinels were just a solid boring cloud. I got the impression that it wasn't so much an artistic decision as it was just some trick that made it easier to animate. |

Yup, Dawn of the Dead remake is still the best. Only thing that comes close is the first half of 28 Days Later.
Other things that made it great:
-Doesn't waste your time with origin story. BAM zombie apocalypse.
-Doesn't waste time with early period of characters not being up to speed on zombie lore. They're trying to kill you, shoot in head. Spares the audience of 10 minute scene where everyone needs explaining to.
-No attempt at social commentary. The worst thing to happen to the genre was people latching onto the idea that the original LotLD was a statement on race. The last thing I want out of a zombie story is a comfortable suburban life offspring like Robert Kirkman lecturing me on REAL human nature. Even Romero's flicks got worse and worse the more MESSAGE he tried to inject into it. |
