Red Dawn - A brief history lesson of the USA
12/30/11, 22:20

Up until the last 20 minutes, the Wolverines had killed more Wolverines than the Russians did.

Hey, just go along with them and all they do is make you sit and listen to boring history lessons on an overhead projector. No worse than school.

$2000. For real.

I remember they once had a 90% off sale for $200. Jokes were made how guys who just paid full price must have killed themselves.

$5 million doesn't quite count as tons of money for a theatrical release.
Californication - Tampons
12/30/11, 01:39

This reminds me of Plinkett's Indiana Jones 4 review; the appeal is in vicariously living through the character, not the actual character. This show is a lot better when it's just Duchovny being goofy, and godawful when they turn it into a couch session character study drama.

Nintendo is going to be royally fucked in a few years.

The Wii was a simple gimmick that people who didn't normally play games could get into.

None of these people are going to be lining up for Wii U touchpad controllers.

So what has Nintendo traditionally fallen back on when their console is a turkey? Their portable system. Gameboy and DS kept them alive during the N64 and Gamecube years.

Oops, except now smartphones have taken over the portable market. Who is going to pay $40 for a crappy 3DS2 game on a $200 handheld when they could pay $1-10 for a crappy game on a smartphone they already owned?

I dunno, try playing the opera scene from FF6 in front of someone who's never seen it and try not feeling embarrassed.

Historical artifact of old actors swearing I guess, but pretty boring.

...oh well

At best it'll be like The Thing prequel: the exact same movie but with a weaker cast and script.

What's the male equivalent of this? Showing up to a Twilight fan site and calling yourself SuperSensativeListenerGuy?

Yeah I was going to say.

The worst is when you see an (pushing) elderly woman with pigtails acting like she's 12. There's usually one of them in every liberal arts elective college class.
Party Down- Revising a Sci-Fi script

The first season has Jane Lynch, who is EASILY the weakest part about the show. She never actually plays a character, just a "wacky" improv performer reciting lines. You have to put the joke ahead of yourself in comedy and she fails miserably at that.

I also never thought Ron was that great but he wasn't painful.

The real stars are Roman and Kyle. Henry and Casey are decent and manage to be amusing with a relationship without going all Jim & Pam.

In season 2 Jane Lynch gets replaced with Megan Mullally (Sarah Palin clone) who is much much better.

The only disappointment was the final episode. Jane Lynch comes back and Roman is locked in a closet stoned the whole time.

Someone asking if you're a gamer is as pointlessly dumb as asking DO YOU LIKE MOVIES/MUSIC? Ditto with identifying yourself as so.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (trailer)
12/21/11, 12:51

No one who read the books had much of an idea what was going on in the movies other then "Elijah Wood has to toss a ring into a volcano." What is this wooden log city? Who's this old king? What's the marble city? Who are the horse guys and the robin hood guys?

Then the utterly invincible fellowship sucked all tension out. The only decent part in the entire trilogy was that Minas battle where the fellowship wasn't around to ruin it...up until they did with the utterly invincible ghost army.

Every change Jackson made seems to have been for the worse.

This series is on Netflix Instant right now, but is getting yanked in February along with all of Starz's other content. Catch it while you can.
