Honestly, comparing HST's work before and after Strange Rumblings/Fear and Loathing, "a white guy who loved acid" is a pretty accurate and concise summation of his character.
I'm going to have to look this book up. The book I've read where I learned the most about OZA was a general history of 60s-70s new journalism and it made him sound like a slightly wetbrained publicity freak.

This is longer and arguably better but the TDR version comes right after their goth Beach Boys cover so its a draw for me. |
