Such a.. Fleschierian villain.

Still better than anime.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks - Substitutiary Locomotion

Oh hell yeah, this is chock full of startling childhood flashbacks. I also remember Nazis with machine guns fighting death knights. What the hell did they have us watching?
Compilation of some Ed Wood Jr. trailers.
09/17/08, 03:19

I'm reminded of a scene from the Johnny Depp movie, where Wood is doing unconvincing drag, but everyone cheers him anyways because hey, hooray for Ed.

He'd appreciate our love for his movies, even if it's not quite what he was hoping for. And a lot of his actors were desperate for some respectability, and really tried their humble best.

Ed Wood trivia: At a party once, Tor Johnson got sad and drank a gallon of wine then passed out in the front doorway. The guests had to leave through a window.
Jandek on Corwood

So I will abstain from voting because no matter what answer I give, it'll be wrong.
Jandek on Corwood

Maybe it's less "The Emperors New Clothes" and more "The Aristocrats"? Maybe he's just the outsider-artist in-joke.

Like, Tom Waits is a huge fan.. "Oh yeah Jandek, you gotta hear this guy. I'd fight any man who didn't like Jandek. He's really got a.. you listen, you look inside and.. I'd fight'em. FIGHT'EM."
The Sims 3 Trailer
09/17/08, 03:04

When I played The Sims 2 all my characters were either emo gothy twinks or abusive obese old people. Maybe Will Wright heard my prayers.. I hope he also gave some love to the angsty mannish lesbians I always played in The Sims.
Wizard People, Dear Reader: Chapter 20 (CHRISTMAS, YES!)

Yeah I feel bad for not giving 5 stars, but you kind of have to start from the beginning and get into the narrator's creepy style. It should all be on Youtube.
We Are Motörhead

To be fair, this was the mid-50's when only about 20 people in the entire UK had ever heard of rock'n'roll. Strumming a Chuck Berry song on guitar was the equivalent of that ape in "2001" achieving sentience. It made girls' clothes disappear. It was Rock. It was Good.
You Think You're A Man

Disco is just a genre that drag queens are automatically good at, like old showtunes. By all rights this should be absolutely hideous, but hey, it's pretty decent disco.

I can see why they broke up, the other musicians (Jones and Cook) just wanted to play old fashioned rock'n'roll. I think Johnny said "Submission" was as close as they ever came to what he wanted the Pistols to sound like. Their next album would have been good.

I can't quite understand it.. he meant to be grating and anti-pop, but it's still really good. Suppose that's his point. Plus, early PiL only sounds like early PiL. You can tell in the first second "This must be old PiL." And I like it.

If you haven't, read Lydon's autobio, no matter if you like him or hate him. Oh, it is an honest and catty piece of work. You'll love it.
How Can She Bonk Me!?

+1 because I like TF2. Otherwise.. well.. +1 because it's certainly better than the other video.
How Can She Slap Me!?

This was 5 star material, 4 easy. Folks, this is how to ruin a nice slice of video.

-1 for that, and -2 for unnecessary slo-mo. Oh geez, and -100 for the ending.

What were you thinking?
Genghis Blues

Sorry bout the poor audio synch.. didn't notice till too late.
Genghis Blues
09/17/08, 02:18

"Genghis Blues" isn't the song, it's the name of the movie that was eventually made about this. Blind bluesman goes to Tuva, learns to throat sing, is roundly beloved by the country. This was the promo video he and Kongar-ol Ondar made to try and get gigs.

I'm not into "world beat" music and all, but it's really magical when 2 musical styles that are as far removed as you could ever imagine still just *click* together. Reminds you that we're all human, and know how to rock, no matter how different we are.

There's plenty more on Youtube under Paul Pena and "Genghis Blues", some better performances too, but this is an early vid and shows how the 2 styles just mesh so beautifully.

My favorite moments from these are when Pena is rocking the blues so hard that the Tuvan guy starts playing air guitar. Pena became a national hero in Tuva. It's simultaneously the blues and heart warming.
Destination Truth-Mongolian Death Worm
09/17/08, 02:03

Aww man, with a title like "Mongolian Death Worm" I was expecting some hella heavy throat singing metal band.

Anyways, if an investigative special starts with rhetorical questions "Could a deadly worm be lurking in Mongolia?", "Could aliens have visited this couple?", "Are these events a message from beyond?" the answer is always "No."

So I'm pretty sure the cliffhanger is "it's not a death worm".

See wtf japan's insightful comment. He's the best part of that cartoon.
Wizard People, Dear Reader: Chapter 20 (CHRISTMAS, YES!)
09/16/08, 19:06

Yeah, I love "Wizard People", but it doesn't really work well as a clip. Maybe this will get people to listen to the whole thing.
