I bought a book Theroux wrote about going back to the US to reconnect with his interviewees. It's a very sad book.. most of them still have the severe, unresolved issues he tries to point out to them. |

There's a whole scene made up of fanatics who cross-breed and mutate hot peppers like some kind of arms race. I once bought some little 1 gram bottles from a local competitive grower, it felt like a creepy drug deal. A few years later they're still mostly full. |
