PoE Classics! Wasn't GraBear one of the only couple of good natured exhibits we had? He made an account, explained that he was cool with us, that he was who he was, and for that, we stopped laughing at him and forever laughed with him. Awesome to see him again.
Much like our most awesome exhibits, he's probably a cool guy to have a drink with and relish in shooting the shit about conversation topics you don't usually get a chance too otherwise, as long as the night stops there. |

Actually, I've seen some of this shotgun art, and it looks pretty awesome.
Plus, I mean, you're painting by blasting the shit out of a spraypaint can with a 12 gauge. Did they ever tell you about that avenue when you were in elementary school? I sure wish mine had. |

Like any display of patently ridiculous dogma and religious superstition, this didn't make me laugh, or feel angry about ignorance in the world. I'm left with the sense that mankind has fundamental flaws in it's perception of reality, which only education and strictly rational thinking can hope to mitigate. |

I take a little issue with the phrase, "Train (a pigeon) to figure out how..." I'm pretty sure if you could do the experiment in a suitably convoluted, but controlled environment, you could train a pigeon to train a pigeon. Maybe to train a goldfish, maybe not. If you set it up right, it would be obvious that the first bird isn't "training" the second bird, it's mechanically completing actions that earns it reinforcement. The training of the second bird would be incidental.
My point being, the pigeon doesn't "figure" anything out, at least not the way we think of it. We know humans figure things out, maybe higher primates, but there's no question we're the only species on the planet whos brains work the way ours do. In fact, I'm still wondering how the debate about Koko the Sign Language Gorilla is going. Monkey See Monkey Do, or is it the spark of intelligence there? |

I was going to make a joke about how uninformed the "Skin Color as Paint Mixing or She Cheated" argument they made was. Something like, "Haha, yeah, seriously I bet these two imbeciles couldn't even SPELL 'homologous chromosome alleles!'" Which, I admit, I did sort of smirk at.
Then I realized I'd be doing everyone a disservice with that. It assumes they have nothing more than a vague laymans notion of how reproduction works, the basic "He got that from his daddy, but he got that from his momma" thing. Who knows, she at least seems to know what DNA is, kind of, even if the letters A, C, T, and G likely mean zero-nada-zip-zilch to her.
If you want to know why your kid has a different tone, ask someone who pulls down a low-to-medium-end six figure as a years pay, spent ten plus years and $100,000+ doing nothing but studying in the medical field, works in a lab coat, latex gloves, and goggles, and has a cute little double helix string for a desktop image or as a statue/paperweight on the coffee table at home. You're going to get a clear, concise, non-ambiguous, and most importantly educated answer. This video is just the blind leading the blind.
And now I'm hoping this is TL;DR because WOW what the fuck did I just type? |
