Penguin Cam

I wonder if the other penguins plot to kill the one that keeps going "WAAAAAAAUGH!!!" at regular intervals.
Boardwalk Empire - Van Alden Addresses the New Recruits
03/25/12, 21:34

SPOILER:

He accidentally drowned his partner using baptism as a form of waterboarding. In Van Alden's defense, the partner had accepted a bribe and murdered a key witness in an investigation that could have toppled the local crime kingpin.

It really rattled Van Alden because he finally realized fighting the crime and corruption growing during the prohibition era was turning him into someone as bad as the crooks.

Also, Michael Shannon, the guy who plays Van Alden, is so far into the character, it's kind of scary.

When these first came out, I spent some of my hard-earned lawn mowing dollars on a set. They were insanely expensive and had very few parts in each kit. They were sold in deceptively large boxes, but the parts were packed in white vacuum-formed plastic trays with individual compartments for each part. The compartments were spread far apart.

They weren't very versatile and I could only build three things with the kit I got. They could be used to make a car, a tractor or a "walker". The "walker" walked by alternating resting on its stomach and standing on four legs. After about a year, the clear capsules turned a brownish yellow.

I should have gotten more Lego Technic sets instead.

Dude, you're MADE of food.

Dumb-ass.

Holy shit! Geraldo Rivera is still alive?
Mechawhales
03/22/12, 17:55

Why does everyone insist on representing sperm whales with such broad snouts?

I know they look square in profile, people, but they're really kind of like an axe blade when viewed from above.

"You've defeated the evil aliens, now what?"

"We're going to Japan...to conduct RESEARCH."

Come to think of it, wasn't there a zombie sperm whale mounted on a mecha-spider in "Gyo"? If I remember the comic correctly, it simply collapsed under its own weight once it left the water.
Man flies like a bird

Lightness of the wings notwithstanding, imagine the muscle it would take to flap them hard enough to lift a man that size.

Also consider that it's not as though he's doing a pull-up or a press-up. His arms are spread wide, relying entirely on his pectoral and biceps for the downstroke.

While a physically fit man would indeed be able to exert enough force to lift himself in such a manner (imagine a gymnast lifting himself on the rings) it's not an action than can be repeated for long.

It's more likely he's being suspended by a cable attached to his back and the "flapping" merely provided forward propulsion.

If it were that easy, we'd have been doing this for centuries.

Fakety fake.

No, it's the borribles who REALLY know how to deal with talking rats.
Capitol Critters - Episode 01

I'm glad Neil Patrick Harris' career was able to recover from this.

Bobcat Goldthwait was not so fortunate.
Penn & Teller Bullshit - Ouija Board
03/20/12, 01:15

I know a disturbing number of people who absolutely insist a mass-produced eight-dollar piece of cardboard and plastic is a portal to the netherworld.

Half of them believe even touching a Ouija will allow demons to possess your body and make you commit adultery and/or murder. The other half believe you can use it to talk with a ghost who will give you the answers to life, the universe and everything.

It's hard to decide who's more pathetic.
The Biskitts

The D&D cartoon was actually great. The episodes were written by Mark Evanier and, despite a cookie-cutter premise and a lot of executive meddling, he still made some great episodes and decent characters.

Also, Ralph from "Happy Days" was the voice of the cavalier and Optimus Prime was the voice of the main bad guy.

We already have "Adorrible" and it works perfectly well.

You know those little crackers shaped like goldfish?

If they escape being eaten, they hide under your kid's bed and build a little city from their lost toys.

I'm not making that up, by the way. It's a real ad campaign.

You just know it's going to be parlayed into a feature-length movie.

Oh, dear god. I remember this.

The Smurfs were at the height of their popularity and everyone was trying to duplicate their success.

Those were dark days.
Prometheus - New Trailer
03/19/12, 00:07

I remember the original "Alien" trailers being without music.

I remember the one with the egg cracking open and green light coming out and the one where the word "ALIEN" slowly forms on the screen.

Was there another trailer?

No movie could ever live up to this trailer.

Holy shit, I thought that theme song had a familiar ring to it. I just couldn't place it.
