A child's drawing of the American flag sparks controversy
05/24/11, 21:40 Dear Mr. Girard,
I would like to hold you down, crumple up your child's pathetic excuse for a drawing of Old Glory and cram it down your throat the way he tried to metaphorically cram it down the throat of that Jehova's Witness kid.
He deliberately drew the flag to start shit and you likely encouraged him to be that way. He's going to grow up to be an asshole like you.
Eat shit and goodnight. |

Why Atlas Shrugged Changes Lives
05/20/11, 17:28 Atlas Shrugged, the super-condensed version:
An engineer hired by a company to research & develop new technology invents a fabulous new pollution-free device that would solve the world's energy problems. Rather than turn this technology over to his employers, he opts to violate his contract after the company announces it will give more pay and benefits to its workers.
He uses his technological know-how to set up a city in the middle of nowhere surrounded by a force field that makes it invisible to the outside world.
He convinces all the people who inherited resource-rich land and huge corporations to destroy those resources and plunge the world into a new dark age while they sit safe and sound in their hidden paradise.
For their entertainment, they also brought in playwrights whose plays nobody wanted to see, novelists whose books nobody wanted to read and composers whose music nobody wanted to hear. |

Russian Kitten resists intervention
05/13/11, 17:52 It's hard to get something away from a cat who really wants it.
When I was a kid, my hamster Scooter jumped out of the cage when I was feeding him. I tried to catch him, but he ran out into the Hall and our cat Bianca saw him.
She chased him into the kitchen and he ran between the fridge and the counter. She pushed herself in the gap and when I yanked her out, she had Scooter in her mouth. She had clamped down hard on his shoulder with his whole left forelimb in her mouth.
Scooter's eyes were bulging and he was making a chattering sound. He couldn't turn his head to get a bite in and he was gyrating the free portions of his body wildly.
Meanwhile, Bianca was shredding my hands with her claws and biting down harder and harder. She was growling and her eyes looked crazy scary.
I managed to get one hand under her jaw and squeezed her cheeks between my thumb and fingers, the same trick we had to use to get our dog's mouth open when we had to give him pills. It worked and Scooter flopped out of Bianca's mouth. He fell on the floor and seemed to be still trying to run away, but his motions were spastic.
Bianca was yowling, spitting, still clawing at me and started trying to bite. I grabbed Scooter and dropped the cat who tried to climb me like a tree to get to the Hamster. I knocked her off, ran to my room and shut the door. Scooter was dead. Not knowing what else to do, I put him back in the cage and laid on the bed until my parents got back from the store.
It's really hard to get something away from a cat. |

roll cloud
05/13/11, 17:32 Come to the Florida panhandle. It's practically a daily occurrence between March and September. We're in the war zone between the hot, humid Gulf atmosphere and the cool dry continental air.
We also get big scary swirly clouds that look like The Nothing is coming to get your ass. |

Newt Gingrich officially announces his presidential candidacy
05/11/11, 23:42 Do you want to know this guy's idea of an ideal health care system?
It involves lying in a high-tech recliner in the comfort of your own home while your doctor remotely diagnoses your ailment from his own office.
I am not even making that up. He wrote about it in "To Renew America."
He also wrote about getting into politics when he was just a kid, I think he said he was about twelve years old.
There is something seriously wrong with that if it's true. |

Yes, I know lots of things are better than "Avatar" but try to find stuff about alien planets that is better than "Avatar". |

Skywhales (1983)
05/06/11, 17:57 I saw this early one morning back in the late 1980s as I was getting ready for school. I turned on the TV and this just happened to be playing. I think it may have been on HBO. They used to show short films as time-fillers in between movies...back when they used to show movies.
The thing is, though, I came in somewhere in the middle. When I started watching, the horse-faced guys had just launched their boats and started the skywhale hunt.
This is much more enchanting and less nightmare-inducing when you see it from the beginning. |
