The FLDS church has subjugated, beaten and raped its women; abandoned "surplus" young men to die; and ignored the enormous suicide rate among its young people. The local branch in the story has filled the childrens' cemetery and hills around Colorado Springs, Arizona with thousands upon thousands of unmarked graves. The FLDS church's own president, Warren Jeffs, had to be brought to Texas to be given a fair trial (fair as in any chance of conviction)for raping underage girls he married himself to.
But this? This is where the internet gets outraged.
It will be interesting to see if this translates into any kind of action. |

If Johnny should sit up in bed after his monstrous parents go to sleep, he would be defying their orders! He might ultimately learn that he can get away with doing little disobediences that his parents won't notice, which could end with him growing up to be a normal, well-adjusted young man who doesn't have a pathological need for an abusive father-figure, much less the need to fill that need with a heaping helping of JEEBUS. |

Fuck this evil old shit, and fuck this asinine, child-destroying guide to parenting. I was raised by parents who took this even further, in that they would come up with excuses to hit me if I hadn't done anything bad lately (I was the compliant child), just because they needed to hit somebody. I'm STILL dealing with what this did to me.
My brother? They used to break wooden spoons over his backside, and it never even fazed him. They finally wrote him off as a lost cause because beating didn't make him behave, and they weren't going to try anything else. As a man, he is now a fucking nightmare, a walking bomb just waiting for an acceptable target to go off on, and one of these days, he's going to be charged with assault when he goes too far. |
