I've seen parts of this on pbs, but never the whole thing.
I'm sorry he isn't teaching anymore, it's be pretty cool to learn to have that level of autonomic nervous system control.
Unfortunately, it seems like showing off and making people bleed aren't encouraged. That's sad because they're the first things most people would want to do with that kind of skill. Oh well, so much for my plans for a second boxer rebellion. |

It's not a fluke, mammals all go through a similar progression as they age and baby mammals share basic differences in appearance versus adults of the species. Long story short, we're related enough and the Awwwwwwww response to babies is ancient enough that it gets triggered by kittens, puppies, etc. |

I'd like to note here for the record that I own some hyrax poop. Or, at least an 8% dilution of hyrax poop in pure ethanol.
It's used in perfumery as a fixative. Fixatives make other scents last longer on the skin. Many fixatives of either animal or plant derivation contain a fecal note. It's, uh, well, the fecal note in very tiny amounts is a key part of what makes a scent sexually attractive. As odd as that sounds, it turns out that we're that far removed from peeing in the corner to mark territory, as far as parts of our brain are concerned.
Obtaining most animal fixatives, like musk, civet, castoreum, etc. involve the death of the animal or are cruel.
But, hell, hyraxes love crapping.
Thus, hyrax poop is a highly desired product. |
