DEATH TO ALL THAT IS NOT LOVEBIRD

I was going say "compared to when" but TV was pretty awful at the turn of the century
Zima Commercial 1994
03/22/12, 15:24

Zima, providing joke fodder for many tedious stand-up comedy hacks for an ultra-brief period during the 1990s.
Fish Police - The Shell Game

There were good comics produced during the B&W boom (and still worth seeking out) but the birdcage liner, the dross was what helped turn the boom into the inevitable bust - too many people who thought they'd be the next big thing with their college-study-hall-doodling level art and awkward storylines, too many dinky little here-today-gone-tomorrow publishers run by opportunists trying to ride the wake of whatever sort of comic was considered the hot new flavor of the month (TMNT knockoffs one week, sci-fi comics the next, maybe sword and sorcery afterwards, who knew what the week after that) and comic shop owners desparate not to miss out on what could be the next big thing over-ordering the junk and being left with piles of unsellable comics on their hands - and when the boom went bust creators, publishers and stores suffered, the innocent and the guilty alike.

Of course, nobody seemed to learn anything from the B&W bust or the 90's boom and bust or any of the other mini-booms and busts ('bad girls' comics, small-press comic character action figures, etc. etc.) since then.

And you know, I never read Fish Police but I've come across ads for it in comics from that era.

"time slot filler" could be a tag on many of these recent cartoon entries
Quack Pack intro
03/21/12, 09:51

I'm really glad I didn't watch any of these Disney Afternoon shows - though I wonder if any of these shows like Quack Pack had any crazy fans like the ones who obsessed over the other, somewhat more successful shows like Rescue Rangers and Talespin - you know, folks that made the sort of creepy, kooky websites that ended up as PoE exhibits.

The Home Office back on planet Niburu takes a very dim view of complaints such as yours - if the Glorious Annukai Masters thought you were ready for a nano-snake you would have gotten one.
Virtual Weapon

I have to find this movie or I might indeed start feeling 'surly'.
Saved By the Bell - Native American History

I was thinking of that TNT series where he plays a wacky, flamboyant lawyer alongside Breckin Meyer - dire stuff.

Then there was that other TNT series where he played an idealistic public defender whose facial expressions, when confronted with injustice, resembled less a crusader seething at the unfairness of the system than a ten-year old about to throw a fuss because his mom told him he couldn't do something.

The amazing thing is that Gosselar has actually become a worse actor over time - if you've ever had the misfortune to come across one of those terrible TNT 'original' series he was in, you'll know what I mean.

Nerd Rage Over Card Game
03/15/12, 12:04

I never played any of these collectable card games, because I'm, y'know, such a cool guy - the coolest, even - but I did work for a stint at a combination bookstore/hobby store and on Fridays & Saturdays they would have tournaments for card games like Magic and Pokemon.

Mostly the players were kids, normal kids from like 8 to mid-teens, average kids but the adults who would show up to play, hoooooooooooooly crap.

An assortment of guys who looked like adult sized 9-year olds with neckbeards and adult acne, fat guys who looked and smelled like they hadn't taken a shower in months and had dried foodstains on their shirts, etc. etc.

The store had more problems with the nominal adults than they did with the kids - These so-called grownups would cause all sorts of problems including starting arguements with the kids and their parents. They had no idea how to behave appropriately in public. Several of them had to be kicked out for having freakouts or shouting at little kids.

The Flintstone Kids were clearly a ripoff of Jackie Gleason's 'Honeymooners Babies'.

George Lucas rushes out the new new Special Editions of the Star Wars films in which every monster or beast is digitally replaced with a pug. Watch the Millenium Falcon barely escape being eaten by a giant asteroid pug, or as Luke and his friends face being fed to the Almighty Pug-lacc.

Broken nerds who cannot understand how alien and niche their weird obsessions are to other, functional people - the bronies are perhaps the ultimate version of this.

At 20 seconds I realized my right hand had clenched into a fist and only quick action prevented it from punching my monitor all on it's own.
