It was the 80s, Blue. A much simpler time, according to the sitcoms.
In fact, I would argue that this episode was doing an amazingly radical thing by portraying the molester as a relatively average person, as opposed to an insanely creepy next door neighbor, or something, offering the kid candy or something (which was generally the stereotype who popped up on sitcoms whenever they needed a "very special" episode) |

This is from the first episode of Young Ones which was actually a pilot, so you'll notice it has a slightly different tone than the rest of the series (Rik is somewhat darker of a character), but it was aired as a first episode as the rest of the series had been commissioned before it aired. |
