Amy Goodman discusses her own arrest.
09/03/08, 12:21 My comment on all of this would be this:
What is going on at the RNC is unquestionably something given the tacit approval and encouragement of Republicans who wish to silence dissent, period. I'm not going to throw around loaded phrases like "police state" because clearly this is a situation that, for the moment, is obviously engineered in this city on purpose. This is about more than just Amy Goodman, who made out relatively well compared to the other people still being held for no reason other than engaging in legal protest, same as at the RNC in 2004 where in order to avoid being protest they arrested so many people they had to just dump them in a warehouse.
There are numerous underlying issues here, including the relationship between the police force and an obvious agenda to prevent free speech from going on around the RNC, and of course the police themselves who were clearly out of control (see the videos of bike cops leaving their posts to physically assault protesters who were doing nothing more than stupid hippy dances in the streets).
To say that Amy Goodman brought this on herself is bit like the same logic that blames the rape victim for her own rape. Even if Goodman pushed a few buttons and/or envelopes, the police response was that of cops who were out of control. Sure, maybe they can set boundaries, but what is behind the setting of those boundaries? Should they make any demand out of any protester should that be allowed? If they arbitrarily decide "Oh THIS zone is off limits and what do you know you are all in it!" is that proper police behavior or tactics? Once they started acting the way they did (and this began long before Goodman got involved) the police lost ALL pretense of authority and being able to properly enforce it. And that's why discipline is so important in police work. Because when you give citizens the excuse to revolt and fight back you've lost your authority. Far larger peace protests have been handled peacefully and without issue in similar situations, so there is no excuse for this.
The RNC has the right to not allow certain people into their convention. They DON'T have the right, however, to stifle dissent by actively encouraging and collaborating with law enforcement to terrorize protesters, journalists, and anyone else they don't like.
As for all the right-wing troll talking points, they are just that....right wing troll talking points. And I guess the upside to this whole thing is how people like that and all these people at the RNC are so terrified of journalists and dancing hippies that they have to insulate themselves in their little fantasy world using third-world style tactics. I guess it means something that unarmed college kids and shit like that require near-military action from these people and what it means is they don't have the intellect to handle anyone like that with anything but violence.

Amy Goodman discusses her own arrest.
09/03/08, 11:57 That voice was actually one of Amy Goodman's producers who, I think, was the one filming. He was there before her demanding the release of the two journalists they had beaten up. For some reason the cops didn't come down on him, possibly due to the camera which had a strange effect on many of the riot cops that day judging from some of the footage I have seen. |

Tucker Bounds on Sarah Palin's Foreign Policy Experience
09/03/08, 02:45 FUnny thing is, that was almost a direct quote. Romney claimed McCain had sponsored like a zillion wonderful bills in congress and the interviewer said "Such as?" and Romney basically said "Look, I'm not a congressional historian or someone who obsesses over this."

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors Intro
09/03/08, 02:33 I was a kid when this first came out and for some reason thought the idea of plant-creature things changing into battle cars was the coolest fucking ever in the history of ever, not to be topped by anything.
So I loved the toys. I thought the show sucked balls. |

Joe Lieberman in 2006
09/02/08, 17:01 Hooker, it's not just supporting the war. It isn't just ONE issue. Lieberman has been supporting Republicans for some time now. He is even appearing the RNC this year. He campaigned AGAINST a Democrat politician in his own home state. He has been part of McCain's campaign. He votes on that side of the aisle almost constantly. He is not a staunch liberal of any sort. What he has been doing for the past 5 or so years is effectively acting as a supporter of the Republican party without having the balls to go whole hog, change his party, and just be done with it. |

Tucker Bounds on Sarah Palin's Foreign Policy Experience
09/02/08, 16:55 This is becoming the Republican mantra lately.
"We do all sorts of stuff and make important decisions!"
"Well, can you tell me wha.."
"HOLD IT! Why are we NITPICKING this and an ANALYZING it? I'm not a MEMORY EXPERT PERSON, I'm not a HISTORIAN, I don't keep track of this shit. Look, McCain did shit and you haven't."

Tucker Bounds on Sarah Palin's Foreign Policy Experience
09/02/08, 15:35 You know, one time my family went to Washington D.C. and the hotel we stayed in was right across the street from the Department of Education. I guess that makes me, at least partially, not only an expert on education policy but also someone with experience in the field of governing education. Also, just having VISITED Washington, I guess that qualifies for all KINDS of shit. |

MST3K - Puma Man Death Fakery
09/02/08, 12:56 Just so everyone who hasn't seen this MST is aware, the main "hero" is doing this so he can get out of being Pumaman because he's a huge, whining, pussy. |

Diddy Obama
09/02/08, 12:54 Oh man..I want to see Democratic ads using this dialogue.

Democracy Now's Amy Goodman arrested at the 2008 RNC.
09/02/08, 12:43 Because she was on film. Her two colleagues didn't make out so well: no cameras. |

Democracy Now's Amy Goodman arrested at the 2008 RNC.
09/02/08, 04:32 I've been telling people to politely email as many news websites and organizations as possible and ask them to cover this story. The police can try to paint what they've been doing to protesters as preventing some sort of crime and doing the usual bullshit, but in this case, they can't dress it up. Goodman wasn't doing anything at all wrong and they man-handled her and threw her and her associates in jail for literally no provable reason. What's more disturbing is Goodman's claim that her press pass was taken from her by a member of possibly either the secret service or RNC security. So, she had no official press identity after this allowing whoever to claim she was up to something and not part of the press.

Gun Store Robber Gets a Surprise
09/02/08, 02:43 What makes this fake:
The guy stands there with this fakey "OH LOOK AT WHAT IS HAPPEN-ING TO ME!" when, in real life, guy would grab one of the DOZENS OF GUNS LYING AROUND HIM and maybe, you know...threaten the guy or shoot him or something. |

MST3K - Teleportation scene from The Girl in Gold Boots
09/01/08, 23:23 Girl in Gold Boots is one of the best ones, but it's hard to wrong with any Ted Mikels film. I had always hoped they'd get around to Astro Zombies, but alas it was not to be. |

Trailer Park Boys - Jalapeno
09/01/08, 16:14 I suppose I should mentioned I just discovered this show. Just finished first season and am moving onwards (the entire show is on YouTube legally). I haven't gotten to this episode, but saw the clip and thought it was a perfect bite-sized bit of the show. I love this series, though. Probably one of the best comedy shows I think I've ever seen next to Arrested Development. |

The Daily Show - Barak Obama: He Completes Us
09/01/08, 12:21 It also proves, as I have repeatedly stood by, that only left-wing liberal types can actually make fun of left-wing liberal types. |
