But that is part of the basis of the religion, which is the point he was basically making. You just basically summed up the idea behind the 10 questions thing which is that for Christians to get on with their daily lives, they have adopted a "well, it's symbolic" approach to the bible, which is completely illogical. The bible and the roots of Christianity lie in believing in God and believing that God has omnipotent powers over the world and the universe and everything in it. This is enforced by the Gospels, which many Christians DO take literally for the most part. But you can't have it both ways. You cannot believe in the power of God and Jesus, and the supernatural miracles they are advertised to be capable of, and then simply say "Oh, well we all know those things are physically impossible and don't stand up to logical scrutiny, but I'm a Christian anyway and that stuff was just metaphor to make you believe." It's a self-rationalization that's completely ridiculous. Whether you think that point was made in a douchey manner, it still stands. |

What is this fascination with bands who fail their own songs in Rockband? I mean, yeah it's kind of funny, but these are guys who usually aren't too big on gaming, and probably don't play Rockband.
The instruments are not really very similar to their real counterparts (except in vague, mechanical ways), so why should someone like Rush instantly master their own song?
In fact, the Tom Sawyer in Rockband is a cover, so it's weird they're even playing it in the first place when Working Man and Closer to the Heart are their only licensed songs in the game. |

This is TL;DR, but it's bugging the shit out of me.
I was talking about this with someone a few days ago, but: The Mayan calendar does NOT predict the end of the world in 2012. This is one of my huge pet peeves being someone who loves reading about ancient cultures.
The Mayan Long Count cycles end in 2012 because they figured that was a good place to stop writing down the calendar since it was, you know, thousands of fucking years into the future. So, they figured they were good to go for awhile. Their myths and legends incorporated the belief that when previous cycles had come to an end, a cataclysm came along with it. These religious beliefs and the actual factual elements of the long count are ENTIRELY SEPARATE things. They never EVER said or predicted that the fifth cycle (2012) would end the entire world. They said, based on their own religious beliefs, they thought it would be accompanied by something bad perhaps, but they honestly didn't know.
This 2012 as the end of the world bullshit is thanks to stupid new agers writing retarded books about their vast misunderstanding of Mayan archeology. It'd be like walking into someone's house and noticing the calendar on their wall ends in December, therefore OMG WORLD ENDS IN DECEMBER.
